I am pregnant now with my second child. My first is 19 months now and was delivered vaginally with no complications. I just went for a level 2 ultrasound and the ultrasound tech had to bring a doctor in because she was concerned with some band by the placenta. anyway..the doctor says its JUST scar tissue??? but they want me to come back in 2 months to check on it. so i was asking her if this was bad and all that and she just kept saying no. im confused because why would they need to keep an eye on it if it couldnt turn out to anything bad? and alsoo why would i have scar tissue in my uterus? ive never had a c-section and no operations or anything down there. im sooo confused and scared now after reading about all the dangers with scar tissue such as placenta previa and placenta accreta. has anyone had scar tissue for no known reason that i know of or had a normal pregnancy and delivery with scar tissue?? im freaking out!

What can I do next?

I agree with Sarah! I am not sure what causes scar tissue from a vaginal delivery, but your skin scars from stretching (stretch marks are scar tissue), so she may be right about it just being from stretching. Ask your doctor.

Also, many doctors will want to keep an eye on anything that is at all out of the ordinary, dangerous or not. OBs can be used for up to 21 YEARS after a child is born if anything happens, which makes them EXCEEDINGLY cautious.

THink about it -- 1/3 of all deliveries in the US happen via c-section. Every single one of those women has scar tissue on her uterus. Have you ever heard of one of them having a real problem from it? I haven't, and I used to work in L&D! Bad scar tissue makes it more complicated to do a c-section, but in every instance I observed, that just meant that the OB spent longer making the incisions. No big deal.

I agree that you need to stop reading things on the internet (I've done it myself) and talk to your doctor. Your case is unique, let him/her give you the information that is appropriate for your particular case.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

A.,
Ask your doctor specifically how you may have got this scar tissue.
They don't seem overly concerned, and you probably shouldn't be either, but you deserve to have your questions answered. No question is "silly" or "wrong" to ask your doctor! If you feel your doc won't or hasn't answered direct questions, you need to change docs!
Congratulations!

Scar tissue is normal i dont have it on the uterus i have it on my pelvic bone. They wanna keep an eye on it so they can see if you can still deliver naturally or if they have to do c-section. my neighbor goes through the same thing and she had to go c-section because hers hurt. i suggest if it aint hurting try going naturally and if it hurts to bad then they will do emergencie c-section

You have scar tissue because you had a child in your uterus, which expanded to many times its normal size to hold the baby. I don't know about you, but my stomach has scar tissue, also known as stretch marks, for the same reason. Take a deep breath and relax. You keep your eye on your 19-month when he is playing at home right? Not because you expect anything terrible to happen, but because you want to be sure to cover all the bases. So listen to your doctor: This scar tissue is not likely to be an issue. No one can promise you your pregnancy will go without a hitch, but freaking out is neither good for you or the baby. And STOP reading up on all the terrible things this could cause. It will only make you feel worse.

I wouldn't panic too much, the best thing you can do is stay calm. Stress isn't good for either of you. Sounds like a good possibility for endometreosis...did you discuss that with your doctor? I know I have a mild case of it and had laparoscopy prior to getting pregnant with my son to remove some scar tissue to ensure my ability to get pregnant. If you've ever had severe cramping, heavy periods, etc...it's a good possibility. Your doctor may not be so concerned because hormones during pregnancy can keep scar tissue from conditions such as this from growing or having an effect. My ob told me that pregnancy balances your system out and it actually the best thing for someone with endo. as is breastfeeding.

Keep in contact with your doctor about it and if he/she isn't willing to discuss why or what it might be....get a second opinion, you deserve the peace of mind and an understanding of what's happening.

I hope everything turns out okay!

I was told that I had alot of scar tissue after my last c-section with my second son. I remember that it took some time to get my son out and aftwards the Dr. told me that i had alot of scar tissue. Well I had fibroids removed and a c-section with my first son so this is probably the reason for me. However, I did have a normal pregnancy with my last son with the scar tissue.
I'm sure you will be fine and congrats.!
