Repiercing Ears

Up until 7 years ago, I wore pierced earrings all the time. After my firstborn, putting earrings in was not a priority. As a result, the holes closed. About 2 years ago I tried to have my ears repierced. They went through the same starting hole. I was told there was no guarantee that it would go through the exact hole path that was there before. I had more problems than ever with those piercings! They were infected constantly. (I did go to a reputable company. They did my daughter and hers are fine!) After many months of battling the infections, I simply gave up and pulled the earrings out.

Now that time has passed, I am considering repiercing again. Call me crazy, but I have some precious birthstone earrings that I love and want to wear again. Clip ons are not an option for me. They hurt my ear lobes and give me a headache.

So mamas, my questions to you are these: Have any of you successfully repierced your ears? Where did you have it done? Any suggestions for success?

Thanks!

When I was 5yo, my mom took me to the dept store to have my ears pierced. However, this was before they realized how beneficial it is to have 2 people and do both ears at the same time. They got one pierced and I screamed so much they wouldn't do the other one. They took the one out, so I was back where I started.

Fast forward to age 11, and my mom let my aunt take me to have them done again. This time they did them both at the same time. A few months later, they became infected because I didn't know that I can't wear anything but real gold at that time. I had to take them out because the back of one of them had become embedded in my ear(on the side I slept on). I had them pierced again at age 13, and have now had them for 14 yrs. I didn't have any problems with scar tissue, and mine were pierced in the same place as before. But I'm one of those too that cannot take my earrings out for more than about a month or they will close up, regardless of how long it's been since they were done.

While I had my third time done at Claire's, I'd suggest a tattoo parlor as well. Or somewhere that the piercer has sufficient training and experience. I'm not knocking Claire's but I know the training given there for piercers isn't nearly as extensive as that given to piercers at tattoo parlors. If you are ever close to the Garland/Mesquite area, I'd suggest checking out Fine Line Tattoos on Gus Thommasson. I have a friend who is a tattoo artist there, and he raves on about their piercer. It's a good, clean place also. I had my tattoo done there even before my friend worked there.

Hi C.,

Yes, I have had mine repierced, but it was in Arkansas. I was advised by the person doing it that its okay to get close to the same hole but not to repierce the exact same spot. So mine were put in a different place. I had no trouble with them at all.

I am one of those rare people, like you, who have to wear earrings all the time or the hole closes up on me. Now that I have 3 kids and no time to fiddle with earrings, I bought some 10 carat gold earrings (like what they pierce with) and just leave them in all the time except for the rare occasions I go fancy. That keeps the holes open and requires no maintenance. I simply wash around them with my washcloth as I was my face each day.

Hope this helps.

I would recomend going to a Tattoo/Pericing parlor at this point they are REALLY TRAINED in this sort of a thing. Dealing with repeircings, scar tissue from old peircings etc. Good Luck.

Yes I have had success with repiercings of my ears. The best place I know of in all the DFW area is La Lobe. The lady there is brilliant about this sort of thing. I would have her look at your ears and decide if the time is right of if more healing needs to happen before redoing them. La Lobe is located in the shopping area on Northwest Highway and Preston Road right off the Northwest Highway exit at the Tollway.
