Relief for My Mom :(

My mom has shingles and she is in a lot of pain. Along with the nerve pain, she also is suffering from burning and itching where the blisters are. She has been to the doctor and they are treating her with oral medications. I was hoping someone would have some suggestions for something she could put on topically to get some relief. We have tried a couple of over the counter creams and are willing to try just about anything. Are there any natural or homeopathic treatments for the skin? I hate to see her suffer and I really want to help her!
Thanks!

What can I do next?

Maalox! My husband had shingles and a pharmacist recommended dabbing original liquid Maalox on the blisters--he said it worked to manage the pain.

Oh, God. Your poor mom.
I've had shingles so bad it almost killed me. Literally. The pain is excruciating.
They do have numbing creams she could get from the doctor, but really, the best thing is to keep the blisters aired so they can dry. Keeping them moist is not a good idea, neither is rubbing them or messing with them too much. Hopefully they've given her acyclovir which might lessen the duration. Unfortunately, it doesn't relieve the pain and burning. She may just need a stronger pain medication until she's cleared up.
I was in the hospital in December and on morphine. I had pneumonia AND shingles.
I've never heard of the Maalox thing, but I suppose you could dab some on. It's an antacid and would dry. I just think the less you mess with the blisters the better. It needs to be treated from the inside out. And with pain medication to keep her comfortable.

Again, I'm so sorry she's going through this. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

My mom has had shingles and her Dr gave her a topical cream that was a prescription-that made a great difference. I'm not sure what meds they gave her, but usually they also prescribe pain meds like vicadon.

I have shingles too. They are TERRIBLE! I used the oatmeal bath stuff and made a paste. I put the paste on the shingles. It gave a very brief relief. There isn't much you can do.
Try an anti oxidant to help between break outs. She may not have them if you get her on a good anti oxidant.

Oatmeal baths, are good. You could also try Epsom salt that might help though the saline might be a little burning not sure. Try the oatmeal they have some at CVS or Walgreens I am sure.
