I was just curious if anyone knows how long you should wait to try to conceive after having a miscarriage. I miscarried a few days ago. I was between 4 and 5 weeks pregnant when I miscarried and clotted pretty heavily so I am sure that all of the tissue was passed. I've heard that it is wise to wait an entire cycle before trying again, but I was just curious if we could try as soon as my next ovulation. I have one beautiful 3 1/2 year old daughter and would love to give her a playmate. My recent pregnancy was a welcomed surprise but now that my fiance and I have had a taste of having another, we are both very anxious. I'm just looking for a little advice. Thank you!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I didn't mean to, but we are pregnant again. I wasn't sure about when I was ovulating and it happened..

You need to wait at least 6 months before trying again.
I too had a miscarriage at 6-weeks, and this is what my OB/GYN instructed to me.

Did you check with your doctor after you miscarried, that you "passed" everything out? I would get an exam first. With me, when I miscarried, it was over a span of about 3 days... I went to my doctor and it was occurring as I was there as well... as a matter of routine, I had a D & C... to totally clean out my uterus. Any tissue left behind "may" cause infection or whatnot.

Hi,
I have no idea what the official medical advice on this is, but I can tell you this: The first time I miscarried (very early) I was crushed. My sister called and told me not to be upset, I'd probably be pregnant within three months. She revealed that she had a pattern of miscarrying early after each full-term pregnancy. Then, like clockwork, she'd be pregnant again within a couple of months -- and that one always lasted. Sure enough, I was pregnant with my second child in two months. Same pattern held for my third child and when I miscarried after she was born -- well that's when we rushed my man in for some very private surgery! I don't know if we followed protocol, but it worked for us and I couldn't be happier with my little tribe.

Lots of luck! :-)

I have had 8 miscarriages - one of triplets and one of twins. I had my first miscarriage of triplets after taking fertility drugs at age 22. I had my last pregnancy at age 38. I have 4 boys - ages 17, 12, 4, 3. I know how hard this is. YES - wait at least one cycle before trying again. Your body needs time. Your hormone levels need to return to a somewhat normal level. If you can be patient and wait a few months it is really the best for your body. I will pray for a successful pregnancy for you and for patience during this process. I know how hard it is when you want a child so badly!
Good luck!

Hi L.,

I'm so sorry for your loss, I too miscarried in May 2007. I would say wait about 2 cycles. I became pregnant the 3rd month after my miscarriage. I hope you the best.

I'm so sorry for you loss! I, too, miscarried around 6-7 weeks and it is devastating! So, I feel your pain. My doctor told me to wait atleast 1-2 regular cycle to try again. I think that gives your uterus time to recover and get healthy again. Talk to you dr. regarding your body and how this miscarriage affected you. I had a D&C, so my advice may be different than yours.

Again, so sorry for your loss!!

Sorry to hear about your loss.......hope you are coping as well as you can.It is best to wait at least 6 months before you plan your next pregnancy as the risk of recurrent miscarriage increases when back to back pregnancy.Your body needs time to recover from your recent loss.start taking prenatal vit with 1 mg of folic acid 3 months prior to your next planned pregnancy .good luck.
