Hi, I get really bad headaches, such as pounding, and also electric serges running through my head. I was assualted over a year ago, and since then the pain has not stop since. I have not had one moment of peace from the pain. I have headaches from the time I wake up till the time I fall asleep, and some nights I can't even sleep. Because I waited so long to get it check out, because the hospital, which would not give me and exray, told me it was a concussion and would hurt for a while. Now that my brain healed, there really is no way to tell where the damage was, and what is causing them. I hate taking medication, and I have to take it every day, with no release of the pain. Can anyone help, has anyone had this, or know anyone that had this, and what they did to fix it.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I want to thank everyone so much for their responses. I am under a neurologist care right now, but the problem is I get not only throbbing pain, but also electrical pain in my head just on the left side where I was assualted. I had MRI's and CAT scan's, but my brain healed since I waited to see the doctor for more then six months because of the fact that the ER doctor said it was a concusion and the pain would go away, it will just take a while. It just keeps getting worse and worse, and the pounding is not as bad as the eletrical pain, like being zap. I was hoping if anyone knew of such a pain, since no one can tell me why this is accuring or can even explain it at all. Such pain is not normal they tell me. Thank you for everything, and I will be asking the doctor about some of these as well.

Hi C. - Please go and see a chiropractor! It may offer you some immediate relief while you are looking into other treatments or tests. Medical specialist always take time to get appts. with and aren't quick to diagnose/treat. I am so sorry that you are in pain every day! I can't imagine functioning with a chronic headache like that. I feel very upset for you and hope you are able to find relief somehow -and fast. Please keep us updated.

Sound like you should see a chiropractor. For 2 years I had neck pain including pinched nerve stuff etc. Dr. and even 2 5-week bouts with Physical therapy didn't fix it but a chiropractor did! Don't settle on the first one, they are just like doctors in that there are great ones and terrible ones -you are worth shopping around! Where are you from? If Central PA I know a good one. Hang in there.

Dear C.,
I agree that it's time to seek help outside the regular physician and a neurologist is probably the way to go. However, I would also suggest seeking counseling from your pastor or spiritual leader (if you have one) as well as trying to find a pain management physician to help you as well. I'll be praying for you. God Bless!

if you have an HMO please see your primary care doctor and ask for a referral to a neurologist

if you have a PPO then just go see a neurologist

if you have neither, please go see a neurologist anyway. they will have more answers than the emergency department.

it is possible that you have injury to your spine and could use an adjustment by a chiropractor

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I would recommend going to a new Dr if you aren't getting satisfaction from your current Dr. Perhaps you should get a referral to a neurologist.

Good luck!

Hi C.,

I'm sorry you are in such pain.

Have you ever thought of accupuncture? If they are that bad, you may have to take something.

I have a health and wellness program that could help. Its called isagenix- you can check it out at www.danablazo.isagenix.com. If you have any questions, please give me a call or send an email.

Good luck to you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your headaches... I know how excruiating and exhausting that can be as a sufferer of the occassional migraine.

Since you don't like taking meds and are looking for a more "natural" approach, check out a chiropractor and/or a naturopath. Since you had an injury, where I assume you had trauma to the head and/or neck, a chiropractor will address any muscular components and get you realigned. Give it a try...

I understand your medical history, but considering how long ago your injuries were, maybe there is a dietary aspect to your headaches. Many people, women in particular, find relief when taking a magnesium supplement (even if only makes a slight difference it might help you sleep better- thus feeling better during the day)... Make sure you're drinking enough water and eatting thru out the day as well.

Best wishes!

Hi C.! OMG Find another doctor!! Go to another doctor and tell him that you have to find out why you are in such pain and fix it. To be in pain for over a year for "no apparent reason" with no testing is unacceptable! This is 2008 not 1808!! An x-ray, a CT scan, a MRI, a nurgicial exam...there are tons of tests that they can do that should be able to pin-point the reason for your pain! Keep away from all kinds of caffine and caffine laced pain relievers as it may actually increase your pain in the long run. Good luck and Best wishes!

Hi C.,
You definitely should seek medical treatment for the headaches. A neurologist can order an MRI and take a close look at what may be causing them. This way they will be better able to treat them. If your insurance requires a referral for a specialist, talk to your primary care physician first. I have chronic migraines and I have a great neurologist in the Warrington area.
Good luck!

They are very nice there and willing to find the answer. My daughter is 14 but 5 years ago she started having a daily headache (no injury...)had strep throat then this constant everyday headache. We tried other doctors just to be guinia pigs for them to try meds on. Any way Dr. kanieki just kept looking and is really understanding ...this is my daughters 5th year and best year so far...only a headache every month or so in stead of everyday. worth checking out.
Good Luck, M. Oh also Please try an orthodontist!!!! I was in a car accedent many years ago now and after it I had horrible pain all in my right side tingleing ,throbing numbing pain that nothing helped...doctors said it was all in my head and making it up...hear I had TMJ...temporal mendibular join disfuntion I had to get a jaw splint and go through braces I even had to have authroscopic surgery on my jaw joins to get rid of the scare tissue and blood that was left behind from my accedent...they didn't find this until about 2 years after the accedent. It does not show up on MRI or cat scans. That might be the answer for you...try it and good luck, God bless, M. try Dr. Philip Dahar in Greensburg he's great!

While I believe in neurology my dd is with the head of ped neurology at children's. I also believe and have had huge success in many areas with chiropractics.

it took me finding the right one and a bit of repeat visits but being that I am technically disable I am without meds and pain. for this I am happy.

I have bit the windshield in a head on collision with no seatbelt and have had great success with the chiro. Compounded by being rear ended twice and still great success.

Please feel free to email me if your in the east and in need of a suggestion.

I do suggest getting a good traditional practice workup, CT, MRI to make sure there is nothing bigger to deal with.

Hi C.,
I would like to suggest a couple of natural products on healthmadesimple.net . OPC-3 helps people with anything from migraines to fibromyalgia. It is an isotonic anti oxident. People swear by it. Also there is a supplement called head rest you can look into.
Hope it helps.

I am a single Mom and also have a PhD in neuroscience. I would go to the doctor and get an EEG- there could be some complications from damage that would not show up on a structural scan (MRI, CT). It could also be migraines- you may want to look into natural remedies for migraines if you do not want to take medication which are shown to be most effective (i.e., the triptans). Feel free to contact me anytime.

You are in my prayers and I am so sorry for your pain.
I suffered for years from migranes, tried imatrex and it worked but they were due to the birth control I was on. I still get one in awhile but not as bad so I just take excedrine migrane and they work great.
Good luck

I also had very bad headaches for almost a year that would be almost paralyzing at times. I started to evaluate my life and realized that the stress of everything going on around me was causing these headaches. Once I realized that it was the stress of life (and got rid of the stressors), my headaches all but went away. Maybe the stress of being assaulted last year is still terrorizing you or causing you to worry. While I agree that you need to see a specialist for the headaches, maybe you also need to look into a therapist to talk about what is stressing you out. I hope this helps and that all goes well. Good luck!

you need to go to a neurologist. Find another Dr. & get an MRI. My mom has constant headaches and it is caused simply by turning her head to talk to somone. They were able to determine however, what causes and give her options for treatment. Some work other's don't. Please find another Dr. If you want you can message me and I will give you the name and number of my mom's neurologist.
Best of Luck

I can't guarantee that it will help but I am a maasge therapist and I have seen a few females that have been in abusive situations an they've had head injuries an since suffered migraines. Some of these women I have been able to help releive headaches completely, one gets partial relief, one has seen no improvement. Just a thought to look into massage.

go to the doctor. you may need to have a cat scan since there was a injury to the brain. do not prolong it,make sure you go to your family doctor who in turn will probably send you to a specialist and make sure you have the appropriate tests.
