We recently visited the beach and my daughter's hair is loaded with sand. Does anyone have good suggestions for removing sand from extremely curly hair?

What can I do next?

I have never heard of using powder...but it makes sense. Everyweek when we go to the lake, my son get sand everywhere...we just shower him up before bed.

baby powder on dry hair. sprinkle it in and shake, shake, shake her hair. it will come out no problem. surfers use this all the time to get the sand off their hands and feet...it does work for DRY hair :) good luck!

My oldest son has thick, extremely curly hair, and the kids at preschool loved to toss sand in his hair because they liked the white sand against his dark hair :-/

Sooooooo, rinse and rinse as much as you can and shampoo at least a couple of times...and there may still be some left in her hair after that.

I like the powder idea... had not heard of it for hair
we used a fine tooth comb when our son got a little over zealous in the sandbox.. and lots of shampoo rinse/repeat...

I'm not sure if this will work on hair, but it would be worth a try in my book. Baby powder works really well on sandy bodies. My guys don't like sand in their sandals (!) so I put baby powder on their feet and the sand just flies off. Baby powder in your daughter's hair might make a bigger mess at first, but if it gets the sand out, then a good washing would take out the powder... it just might work. good luck!

I would try just having her shake her head upside down while you comb or brush it out with (with DRY hair). You could even just finger comb by the scalp. Then wash well.

Brush it out, outside, vacuumn out what you can,, (dont use the power sweep) and then lay her on her back, on a table or step in the yard, with her head hanging over the edge, like at a beautyshop, and use the hose to wash it out. If theres some left,, it will eventually fall off. Her pillowcase will be gritty for a few days.
