Hi everyone, my 13 month old daughter has been running a very high fever the past two nights and low fever during the day. The first night her fever was 103.7 and stayed around 100 or 101 during the first day. I called her pediatrician and they told me that they have been seeing a lot of sick babies with high fevers and told me to alternate Tylonal and Motrin to keep the fever down, but just watch it through the night and let them know first thing this morning if it did it again. Well last night it went up to 104.1. It freaked me out! I called the Dr. office and the Dr. on call called me back and said for me to just watch it and if it jumped up all of a sudden then take her to the emergency room, but if not, just wait until later in the morning and take her the the Dr. Well, I called her Dr. first thing this morning and they got her in. They checked for strep but it was negative, checked her ears, but they said they were perfect. They did say that her throat was a little red, but that was it. Then we noticed a light rash on her tummy and sides. Then she said it was Roseola. They also said that it would probably go away in the next few days. She is just so miserable. All she does is cry and wants to be held. She won't eat, but is drinking plenty of clear liquids. Has anyone ever had Roseola or heard of it before?

My son had roseola when he was 9 months old and I promise it will go away. Just keep loving her and keeping her comfortable. My son got a really swollen lymph node from roseola and it stayed swollen for a couple of months even though the other symptoms went away. As long as her fever doesn't reach 106/107 degrees she should be fine. Good luck!

hmmmm Roseola huh?? well quick tips about it..its a virus so anitbiotics wont do any good. the rash will go away on its own in about a week and the high fever should have broken when the rash showed up. What to do about it...just keep baby comfortable. as long as she is drinking fluids you dont have to worry about dehydration. and if you get a little concerned give her some pedilyte or something with vitamins in it. Keep her in a cool bath for 20 minutes about 3 times a day to help the fever if it hasnt broken. and put lotion on her skin so it doesnt dry out. i have 3 little ones at home and all 3 have been through and i know i freaked out the first tim emy oldest got it. its just another form of measles. sometimes called baby measles. she should be fine in a week or 2. I have heard of Roseola but I can't remember much about it. For some reason I'm thinking it has something to do with sores in the babies mouth and throat, (I COULD BE WRONG). I'm really not sure. But I di know if this website called Remedyfind.com

Hi J.,my name is S. and i have little boy 21 months, ryan, dont worry roseola is virus pertty commonis go away in couple days,ryan had rosealo months ago with real hight fever in the night dont freak out take ur kid and put in tub with water (no warm)kind cold but not to cold for couple minutes u go to se the feve go down and give tylenol and motrin, and give a lot drinks is normal them dont want eat dont worry.

My son had roseola when he was 9 months old I freaked out! Especially when the rash appeared. All he did was fuss when he is normally a very good baby. The doctor said not to worry it is nothing. So I just kept a close eye on him The rash was gone in like 2 -3 days and he was back to his self again. I have 3 kids he is the only one who got it. Not to worry too much. Roseola is like the shingles in adults. It is very common in little children. THis is something you will need to wait out. I know hearing that is no cup of tea. I know I really hate hearing just wait it out. Roseola can also be passed to other children like the flu so please try to keep her away from other little children as much as possible. When my daughter was in preschool 2 years ago they sent home a note saying that the whole class was exposed to Roseola and she never got it. I looked it up on the internet, it's kinda like chicken pox expect you don't scratch or get sores. Adults usually do not get it since it is a little kids thing. Just let her eat or drink ANYTHING she wants. Atleast something is better than nothing. She really needs to drink. My 3yr year old at it when she was about 12-13 months old as well. She did the running of the fever with no other symptoms and I did what your doctor told you to do and gave the Motrin/Tylenol piggyback and plenty of liquids. Then after about 2 days of the fever she no longer had that and she got that light rash all over her trunk. She was fine was the fever went away but you want to keep her away from other babies cause it is contagious. The rash itself will pass after a couple days as well. Just love her and keep pleny of liquids going down and watch the fever.
My daughter had a bout of Roseola 2 mths ago. It was right before her first birthday. She did the same thing... high fever (she hit 104.2) and the rash. I actually took her to the emergency room because I thought it was a fever from her teething. Don't worry... she'll be fine. And she will get her appetite back. As for her always wanting to be held,,, don't you want all the cuddling and coddling you can get when you don't feel well? You're her biggest source of comfort. It'll pass in a couple days and she'll be good as new.

Count me in. Both my youngest have had it. It's very scary while you are in the middle of it, but it really is harmless and will be okay. Since she has broken out, she is on the mend. The fevers are very worrisome, I know. I spent nearly a week in a tepid bath with my boys because their fevers were so high and lasted so long (10 days). Try to keep her hydrated and don't worry about her not eating for a bit. That's normal. Give her lots of love. Hang in there, Mom.

He has blisters on his hands and feet, and a slight rash on the rest of his body...looks like prickly heat. (Looks like with roseola there are no blisters.) They get the bumps in their throat too which has been making my little, normally very quiet little man, just holler. My ped suggested lots of fluids, no citrusy juice... apple juice ok, even gatorade or pedialyte. And to basically give him whatever he will eat, jello, pudding...soft stuff. Hope this helps...just in case you start seeing blisters, it may be this. Hope she feels better soon!

Roseola actually is very commen. My daughter had it also when she was 2. Its commen for children between 6mo.-2 yrs old. Starts with a high fever and then the rash. If you look up "Roseola" on the computer there is alot of information about it. Good luck!

I have a 16 month old, and about a week ago she had the exact same thing. She ran a fever for about three days, runiing from 101 ro 103. The doctor told us to rotate tylenol and motrin. Then the fever stoped and the next day she got a rash on her belly for about a day. The diagnosis was the same as yours. She was so misreable during that time. She too wouldn't eat and she didn't sleep much either. Finally, she slept alot the day after the rash broke out and has been feeling fine since.

I say the same as everyone else, don't worry. My son had this just 3 weeks ago. When the rash comes, it means the virus is on its way out. Going without eating much for a few days is fine as long as she is getting the fluids, those are the most important. My son has actually gone through this cycle twice now, he is 18 months old. It is amazing how high the fever can go and it just doesn't seem right when people and doctor's tell you it is OK, but I guess it is! My doctor said that the ER isn't necessary until the fever starts getting to 106-107. I hope that never happens!!
Just keep her drinking!! Hope she feels better soon! Oh, my doctor said he is no more contagous with his rash than he was at the onset of symptoms. I was able to take him to his daycare with the rash, but of course only after he went a full day with no fever.
My 15 month old daughter had roseola a couple of weeks ago. Like your daughter, she had a very high fever for a few days and then broke out in a rash. Other than giving her tylenol and motrin and making sure she gets pleanty of fluids, there is not much you can do. A cool bath may help cool her fever. My daughter was also very fussy and just wanted mommy. I kept her medicated for the fever and gave her pleanty of love and liquids; she was fine in a few days. Oh and the rash never bothered her at all.

I am 6 1/2 mths pregnant and just found out on Friday that a child in my daughter's daycare has roseola. I was very concerned about being exposed to it especially since I am pregnant. I did some research online and this is what I found out. Most adults do not get the virus because they have already been exposed to it when they were young. Approximately 95% of pregnant women have already been exposed to it and will not get it. Although if you are in the 5% range then it can have negative effects, normally the result of high fevers which can cause birth defects. The incubation period for the virus is 5-15days and the virus is normally not spread once the child shows symptoms. Thus, if your child has had the virus for 15 days and your friend still doesn;t have it then she should be fine or if she was only exposed to your child once it had the symptoms then she should also be fine. I am going to make sure my OBGYN is aware of my possible exposure to the virus and pray for the best. My baby has gone through a lot already and he/she isn't even born yet. I had mono during the first few weeks and months of my pregnancy with high fevers and the baby appears to be doing fine. I would let your friend now the facts and make sure she talks to her doctor and then just relaxs because there is nothing you can do now, once you have been exposed. The important things is to make sure if she has a fever that she gets it down as quickly as possible for the baby.
Hello, my daughter around the same age has it too. Her fever was so high!! Then the spots came. It spread all of here body like measels or mumps. Then a few days later it was gone. It was the strangest thing. My son got it too, but it was very mild. Don't worry, it will be gone before you know it.
My daughter had Roseola when she was younger and she got better right after the rash broke out. You could still see the rash slightly for another month or so if she got hot, but she didn't run anymore fevers with it. It is just one of things that has to run its course. I hope she is feeling better soon!

I'm sorry your little girl is feeling icky :( but don't worry, it will pass. My niece had Roseola while we were visiting this summer and it's nothing to get freaked out about, though I would have been freaking with the temp that high. I can't believe your Dr. didn't want to see her right away with a temp like that, who does she see? The fever should subside before the rash does, if the rash is really bothering her try benedryl, check with the Dr. first though, I've never had any problem with it but you should make sure. You could also ask the pharm. for some things that might help. Hope she feels better soon.

There is a website called webmd.com that has a lot of info. about illness. You could go on and type in Roseola and see what it tells you. Those fevers are a scary thing and alot of doctors say well just watch it but every child is different so when they kinda of brush it off sometimes it's our job to take action. Roseola is also called sixth disease. It is viral, so the only thing you can do is comfort measures and keeping them hydrated, which it sounds like you are already doing. I went through it with one of my sons and it seems to go away as quickly as it came on.
