Question About Bumper Pads

My son is 20 months and he still has his in his crib. He did the same thing with putting his head in the corner of his crib or sleeping funny up against the sides, and still does so I kept them in. They don't seem to be a safety hazard or anything for us. There was a point where he used them to stand on them and I thought that I would have to take them out, but now it doesn't seem to be and issue. I think it is ok to keep them in there as long as you don't notice him using them to try and get out of the crib or untie the strings, or some other thing where they may be dangerous.

i never used the bumper pads because the kids always push them down. take them down if you want if not then try to tell him no. he may not know what you mean but he will eventually get out of it.

I used bumper pads until my daughter started climbing on them. She would use them to try to get out of the crib. So i took them out and used a small blanket rolled up to protect her head.

My son is 14 months old and still uses bumper pads. Like your child, my son flips all night long. I don't want him to hurt his head on the wooden slats. Also, if you know how your child sleeps and stuff I think he will be fine. The way I look at it, at his age, if there is something on his face, he is going to move it. My child can't stand to sleep with covers but knows how to play peek-a-boo with them, so I know that if he can put something on his face he can pull it off too.

At about 9 months, my son starting pulling into a stand and then immedietly started to climb on the bumper pads. He used them as another step closer to climbing over the side of the crib. I would hear him and go in his room and he would be standing on them trying to get his leg up onto the top rail. He still was not tall enough, but it was too close for comfort, so I took them down. Research deaths from bumper pads on the internet. I doubt there are too many, but I doubt that they protect from too much at that age either. Good luck!

My daughter is 14mths old and when she was smaller, we also used the bumper pads all the way around the bed because she would roll and scoot all the way up to the head of the bed and she would have been smacking her head on the rails all night long. When she learned to stand up on the bed, I was afraid that she might stand on the bumper and fall out. But, I also knew that if I took it completely off, she would be waking up 50 times a night from bumping her head. So what I did was just untied the pad from the rail on the front of the bed and sort of folded that part back and stuffed it on the sides. So, now she still has the bumper on the back and both sides of the bed, but not on the front. The back of the bed is against a wall and we have furniture on both ends of the bed, so I know that if she were to climb up on the bumper pad, she wouldn't be able to fall to the floor and hurt herself. It's worked for us so far.

I would leave the up until you put him in a toddler bed. They are protecting his little head, and that of course is important.

I guess as long as they are not a danger you can leave them in. I moved my daughter out of her baby bed at 3 and the bumper pads were still in there. I left them in because she always put her head into them. I didn't want her bumping up against the hard rails.

My kids mostly slept with me but for when they were in the crib they too had bumper pads...and I always left them in. If you are concerned about safety I know alot of moms are weaving the bumper pad in between the slats for more assurance the baby couldnt get stuck under them or tangled in the strings or such!

I suggest removing the bumper pads. My daughter has them in her crib until she was 18 months. However, my son is 6 months and I had to remove them from his crib at four months because he would pull the bumper over his face. He does hit the bars from time to time but at least I do not need to worry about him sufficating.

The safety class my husband and I attended said no bumper pads anytime. They said when the baby is small bumper pads pose a suffocation risk and when the baby is bigger they can use the bumper pad to help climb out of the crib.
