I woke up last Thursday morning wth a muscle in my back hurting. I put heat on it for a couple of days and it didn't make any difference. Then, I talked to a friend who said to ice it everey couple of hours and take 4 ibuprofin every 6 hours. I've been doing that the last couple of days and it has helped but my back is still hurting. I don't know whether I should go see my doctor? I don't want to go just to have them tell me to keep doing what I've beed doing and I don't want stronger pain medication but I also don't want to ignore it if there is something a doctor can do. I'm new to back troubles. What do y'all think I should do? Will this just take time to go away? Thanks for your advice

The pain is just in my right lower back. I'm fairly certain that it is a muscle and not kidneys, etc. Thanks y'all, I'll try the extra water, etc. Keep the advice coming!

What can I do next?

Where is the pain? Is it on one side or both?

Aside from a muscle issue, it could be an ovarian cyst, kidney issues, or even something with your legs or feet (or holding a baby on one hip only)... If you can function, I'd give it a few more days, then see a doc.

If your pain goes through the roof, obviously, get your butt to the doc sooner rather than later.

Ease up on the heat, since it can inflame already traumatized muscles.

Feel better!!

Go to your doctor for an evaluation. Back pain is not something to take lightly--I ignored mine for a few years, but it really deteriorated to the point that I have a chronic problem that, only now, I have been getting properly treated.

Where is the pain? I get muscle pain in my back when I'm dehydrated or have low potassium levels. I would eat a banana and drink LOTS of water, preferably a water with added electrolytes like Smart Water. That always helps my muscle spasms go away. Also, cut back on caffeine for a few days if you drink coffee or soda.

If that doesn't work, check in with your doc! Hope you feel better soon!

Go see and Airrosti Therapist, they specialize in soft tissue injuries, (like a chiro is to bones the Airrosti is to muscles) you can find a location at airrosti.com. they are amazing, I have had back problems on and off for many years, but the results from an airrosti are far and above anything I've used in the past. for ex. I has a sever spasm in my back last year and I could not walk up right, I hobbled into the office laid on his table he worked his magic (which is kinda massage like) and I was able to stand up straight and walk out with minimal pain.

what happens is when a muscle gets injured it can often be pulled out of place or alignment. Airrosti puts the muscles back in alignment or back in place which allows for proper healing. It is truly amazing. my back issues usually take 2-3 appointments total to be to fully recovered but I am significantly better after the first appointment. most injuries will take up to 4-5 appointments and they will tell you if you don't feel a difference after the first two appointments they the problem is probably not soft tissue related so you wont be wasting your $$$, most insurance will cover Airrosti the same as a Physical Therapy appointment, and in my opinion it is worth the drive if you don't have a location near you, I know there and several in the DFW area.

Do the ice and then heat about 15 minutes apart, but not all day try to stretch whenever you can. Be careful taking that much ibuprofen it takes your liver and kidneys a while to flush it out and can cause problems.

Can you see a massage therapist? They can do wonders to relieve a tight or knotted muscle and without medication. Check your area for one and make sure it is a reputable place. Some may offer physical therapy too and that will also help.
