My daughter (age 8) has written a book and would like to see it "published" as a paperback that she can give to family and friends. Anyone know where to get such a thing done, preferably in paperback but even hard cover would be ok. Thanks! Hoping to find something that is not hugely expensive.

If you want to do it super cheap, try scanning each page and saving as a picture, then create a photobook online at Walgreen's or Picabo or something like that. I haven't tried it but thought about it. If you do it, maybe let us know how it comes out?

Before you decide to print the book --- COPYWRITE IT!!!

You can do a self copywrite by taking it to a Notary and you as the parent signs and dates each page then have the notary sign and date the last page. Since a minor wrote this book you may want to talk to a copywrite attorney.
I realize you may not be planning to sell the manuscript but if a few years down the road someone reads the book and likes it they could try to rip off the author, your daughter, and publish under their own name as the author.

I would take it to a place similar to Kinkos and ask them how to print and bind the book.

I don't know how much it runs, but you could look into self-publishing through Amazon. Here's a link to the info:

Looks like Create Space would be the one that does the actual print copies.

I know you aren't exactly near me, but Shapato Publishing (somewhere in Iowa) does something along those lines, I believe. I know someone who used them. You might check them out online.

The more copies you want, of course, the less it's going to be. You might consider taking it to a place like Staples and have nice color copies made and wire bound, or something...it would be a LOT cheaper.

Why not scan it in and print it through Snapfish? They do a great job. If it's not urgent and you can wait, they typically have a couple of sales each year on their photo books and the prices are worth the wait!!! Gppd idea by the way. :)
