Preschooler - a Beka Curriculum

If you're a fundamentalist, dominionist Christian who is OK with your child being taught that the only correct interpretation of the Bible is a literal one, that all non-Christian beliefs are false, that Catholics are not Christians, that the theory of evolution is wrong, that the founding fathers wanted a theocracy, etc. then this is the curriculum for you. If you actually want your child prepared for public or private school, I would look for something that emphasizes a play-based curriculum or at least a curriculum based on sound principles of education. If you want a Christian pre-school, there are probably others in your area that work Biblical teaching into the curriculum in a less rigid way than the A Beka curriculum does.

Curriculums don't matter in preschool. Kids learn most from playing until kindergarten. And I'm very into academics and not at all Montessori or unschooly-style, but for real, preschoolers don't need curriculums. A Beka is OK for some, but I know a few homeschoolers -even Christians-who dumped it. Like any other curriculum, it's great for some kids and not for others..but again, in preschool it doesn't matter. Research it online to see if you think it's right for you. SOMETIMES 4-year-olds benefit from a little structured curriculum stuff. Sometimes it's too early. Especially for boys.

it's very popular. but i'd recommend a waldorf curriculum far more highly.
of course, no child who's not even 2 yet should be stuck in any curriculum.

A Beka is a very generic curriculum. I taught it for 3 years. It's a Christian based one, not sure if you knew that.

My daughters used it and it was great for them. My oldest was reading at a 3rd grade level in kindergarten. She loved reading. My youngest has always had reading as her strongest subject.
