Pregnant? - Pasadena,CA

My husband and I have been trying for baby #2 for three months now. The first two months we had no luck. In fact I bought a pregnancy test and returned it after the second month because pregnancy tests are not cheap and who knows when I will get pregnant. So now on the third month of trying, my period is 12 days late. I am not sure if I am pregnant or if my period is coming on late because of stress etc. I don't have any real symptoms yet except for being tired here and there and having a headache here and there. I am tired probably because i have an active toddler.

When I was pregnant with my son, I didn't have any real symptoms until after 6 weeks and they were food aversions, slight headache, tiredness and nausea.

I am hesitant to buy a pregnancy test because I guess I don't want to be disappointed if I find out that I am not pregnant and also I want to wait it out a bit longer to see if I get any symptoms first.

I guess I don't really have a question except should I wait a bit longer? What if my period is late or what if I just skip this month because of stress or what not? My period had been pretty regular for the past 4 years and never skipped except for one or twice a long time ago.

Oh just buy one. You can get one at the dollar store. They all work. You'll never get a false positive (you can get flase negatives if its too early, though). Just get it. Why wonder when you could be moving forward with life?

When i buy the tests i get the ones that are like 15 bucks but it has 2 or 3 tests in them. i would try that then you are at a total loss...or go to the dollar store, those ones work just as well as the priceyer ones. if it reads positive i would call ur obgyn dr and make an appt. Good luck

Why would you wait?

Given the stress in your post, you're not going to feel any better until you know one way or another. If you're afraid of disappointment, that's not going to change if you wait a week.

Just take the test. At 12 days late, if you ARE pregnant, any test will show it. Just go get a 3 pack from CVS. They're cheap, and they work just fine. I've used them for both of my kids and knew before I even missed a period.

I understand that people are, in general, anxious to know IF they are pregnant or not but (and this is not aimed at you) I don't understand the questions that are so pregnancy test obsessed...you know the ones I mean, like "I took 2 tests on Monday, both neg then another Wed and it was still neg..."etc. Why not just wait til you are about a month late and then take a test? I mean, does it make such a HUGE difference when you know, exactly...as long as you are eating well, etc....I don't see the obsession with the early results!
If I were you, I'd wait til you can consider O. period "skipped" then take a test.

If you're 12 days late I would take a test. The cheap ones work just as well as the expensive ones so just get a cheap one. I understand being anxious about seeing a negative but then you're gonna just keep wondering. Also it could just be too early for symptoms and every pregnancy is different. Good luck!

Pregnancy symptoms with #2 can be way less (like I had no sore boobs, no nausea -nothing till tiredness around 8 weeks). Baby #3 I have no sore boobs but I do have nausea and tiredness....it didn't kick in till like 8 weeks though -- that is pretty late to find out your are pregnant and start doing all the prenatal care stuff. I hear the dollar store sells pregnancy tests or buy the generic pharmacy brand as they are cheaper. Best of luck!

Figure out which is cheaper... a store bought test or your co-pay for an OBGYN visit. If you are pregnant(fingers crossed) you will need your doctor's office to confirm it. When I thought I was pregnant, I did a home test... positive.... then called my Dr. to confirm. The nurse let me know that they have to do a test and that their test is the same thing that you would purchase!

Here's what I'm trying to say... 12 days late is most likely a positive. Call your OBGYN and schedule the appointment and get started on those vitamins! The test will cost you $15, but so will the doctor visit. Either way if money is tight, you save $15-$20 by doing the doctor's version.

You can buy pregnancy tests at the dollar store. Then you won't feel like you are wasting your money if you end up with a negative result.

Three months is a very short time for many couples, so relax, take it easy, and don't stress about it if you don't end up pregnant this month. I know you must be anxious and excited and really want it to happen, but if you are stressed out and trying TOO hard, it's not going to work.

I hope you get a positive result this month. If you're 12 days late, that's a pretty good sign.
