Pre-K School - Wondering If Anyone Can Recommend a Good One?!

Hello Moms, (Earlier, forgot to mention that we are in San Gabriel area. Thank you so much for all the responses so far)

We moved earlier this year and my DD (4yrs) was enrolled in pre-school that was recommended by family. After 7 mos, it still does not seem to be a good fit for her. We are looking for a new pre-K school in the area. If anyone has good OR bad experience with the nearby preschools that they would like to share it would be much appreciated. There seems to be a lot of preschools but we are needing some feedback on which ones we should focus on. Thanks so much.

Hello! If you are in the Pasadena area, I would highly recommend Firehouse School. My daughter is there in the 2 year old class and she loves it! They run from 2 years through kinder.

You don't mention the area you are currently living in, but if you're anywhere near Diamond Bar I can wholeheartedly recommend DBC Children's Center (near the intersection of Diamond Bar Blvd and Pathfinder). This is the second year my son has attended -- he is in the pre-k program now -- and I have been happy with them in every respect. Good luck!

I'm not sure if you would consider something in Glendale but there is a fantastic little school w/very reasonable prices, a good educational program & qualified (accredited) teachers at Glendale Pre-School & Kindergarten on Verdugo that my soon to be 4 yr. old son has been attending since he was 2 yrs old. They are fabulous that they help w/potty training. They accept children starting at 2 yrs. old. The student body is diverse, respectful of all cultures. The school has been around since 1976. This school was highly recommended to me by a family friend whose son went there when he was a youngster 20 yrs ago (still pretty much the same Mgt. Staff). This young man recently graduated from UC San Diego. It never hurts to have a good start and at a very affordable price. I know some of my son's classmates live in Pasadena, yet their parents bring them to Glendale. Good luck w/your search! Please ask for Ms. Irene when you call them. She is a very nice blond lady who owns this place.

Kirkwood Christian Schools in Downey has a wonderful preschool and elementary school. They are in two different locations, but both are in Downey. My son started @ 2 1/2 and is now in their 1st grade. He is really doing well and likes his school. I love their ciriculum and they have many extra activities involving the parents that my husband and I can participate in, even with work. They have Christmas programs, field trips, Santa's workshop, Halloween Parade, Thanksgiving lunches. Swimming in elementary and a wading pool for preschool. I really can't say enough. My boy can read anything and has fun doing it. He's even learning Spanish this year. I hope this helps.

Hi S.C.

I'm sure you will get a lot more responses if you write back with the area you live in.

If you are in the Hollywood/Los Feliz/Silverlake area I would like to recommend Los Feliz Corners on Kenmore and Franklin. Very homey and laid back vibe. The kids are always happy.

My 2 little boys had a great time there and were well loved and taken care of by Kent, Christie, Steve and Layne.

Hello. I have sinced moved away from California but still get alot of advice from this site. Anyway, my daughter went to a wonderful church affiliated preschool named Sunrise Preschool that pertains to the Pasadena Nazarene Church in Pasadena. It is one of the most sought after preschools in the Pasadena area. You might want to check them out.

Hi, we live in Covina and our son goes to First Baptist School at our church. It's an awesome school and one of the best in the area. We actually have a lot of families that come from other cities, including Long Beach. They have a curriculum and follow it. The kids have fun and play while they learn. They also offer Motor Development as part of their curriculum, for free. It's great. Also, their prices are really reasonable. We pay $164/mo for two days a week/half days.
If you want to check them out and use them as an example, here is the website.
www.firstbaptistschool.christ-first.org
They are also an accredited school which is important.
Another thing, make sure any school you go check out, that you ask for any health/maintenance citation from the health dept. The law changed last year and it's mandatory for the school to give notices to every parent and new parent. This school near us had over 15 citations and it happened right before the law changed. So unless the parents ask for it, they would never know the problems the school has. Also, make sure their teacher/student ratio are legal numbers. I've heard of schools that have 15-20 preschoolers per adult and that's illegal, and the teachers are alone with them.
Anyway, good luck.

Not sure what your area is. My daughter went to Temple Israel of Hollywood. We had a great experience. At least one parent must be jewish. I've also heard great things about the JCC. It's a jewish preschool, but I believe there is no requirement to be jewish. It is also one of the less expensive pre-schools compared to many i've heard aboyt. Best H. i just looked ay your profile and saw san Gariel, Ca sorry i am not familiar with that area
