Almost all of them are the same concept. Stick the DVD in place and shut the lid, press play. They all work the same. The only issue we have had with any of them is when we are traveling sometimes the cut out when we hit a bump or something in the road. I think most have fixed that issue.

Cost does not make one better, they all do basically the same thing. If they want one and like Barbie better than Disney Princesses go with who they want more or which one has the better price.

If you google kids dvd players there are lots of sites out there that sell them and there are tons of parent reviews.

We always buy in the electronics department. I prefer the plain old black ones that will last until after the kids are tired of Barbie...lol.

I agree they are all pretty kid friendly and easy to use. We didn't know much about them when buying ours so I think we just picked a middle of the road Sony and we like it. 3 years later it's still going strong! I would make sure you get one that is able to hook up the to the TV so that you if you're at a hotel or some place with no DVD player and want to play it on the big screen you can do it easily. I'm sure most of them do that, but it's a nice feature to have. Ours also has a remote which is handy if the kids aren't sure what to push or whatever and the actual volume controls on the screen are hard to use so we use the remote for that too.

I bought my daughter a pair of cute (also Sony I think) kid sized head phones from Target and they are great! They are regular old school types, not ear buds b/c she wasn't into that, and they were about $15 I think. The headphones are good for the airplane to block out the white noise and maybe in the car too if your child wants them to listen better and tune out whatever you're listening to.

There are several out there. What are you looking for in the player?

We have the Cody DVD player - it has a 6" screen.

We have the Polaroid DVD player - it has an 8" screen - this one is also cable ready - in other words for someone who lives in a small place - you can connect it for cable television as well as watching DVDs.

We have another brand as well....but can't remember it - the Cody's were gifts and my kids use them in the car and on a plane. All are kid friendly - with ear plugs - the volume can be adjusted. All are light weight and portable. The Polaroid's cable-ready docking station does NOT need to go with it in order to work.

There are some that have bigger screens...I've not met a bad portable DVD player yet!!
