My daughter is almost three (in August) and she has done great with going Pee on the Potty but for the life of me I cannot get her to go poop on the potty. She will hold it until nap time when we do put her in a diaper/pull-up and then poop. I am getting so frustrated and I am not sure where to go from here. Any suggestions would be great!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies . . . I will certainly see if either of your suggestions work. We do use chocolate to entice her considering she loves Rolos (we even have a jar of them sitting on the back of the toilet) but so far it isn't working. We have also let her "sit" in her poop for no longer than 10 minutes and that didn't work either. Amazing that it didn't gross her out. Anyway, thanks!!!

I had this same problem when my daughter was almost 3. Dr Greene has some great advice on this topic: http://www.drgreene.com/21_762.html

We started giving her a teaspoon of Benefiber in every cup of milk and probiotics once a day to get her stools soft and regular and then told her she had to poop in the bathroom - she could still use her pullup but she had to stand in the bathroom. After a few days then she had to sit on the toilet still using her pullup and then again after a few days I took away the pullup and she's been using the toilet eversince (this was about 8 months ago)
Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be.

My daughter(turns 3 tomorrow and has been potty trained since Jan!!!Yeah) would get this scared look on her face when it came to pooping on the toilet that she would get off the toilet. She would end up pooping in her pants. I stopped using pull-ups because, like your daughter, she would just wait for the pull-ups to poop or even to pee. It took a few weeks of her pooping in her undies, where she would poop in her undies and we would dump it in the toilet so she could see it being flushed. I never got mad but just stalled changing her because she never liked the feeling of her pants being full of poop. I just kept doing the same process for almost 2 weeks. Towards the end, I used Sour patch kids candy as the big incentive. Once she tasted one of those, it was like the trigger went off to poop on the toilet! For my daughter, the first time she pooped on the toilet was the big deal..candy and she saw that it wasn't scary!

We had this same problem with our oldest daughter (she's now 7). What finally worked for us was good old fashioned bribery. I know some people don't like to use it but as my Grandmother told me, it works for short term. My daughter was into Little People, we had the whole Little People world. There was a set that she really wanted and had asked for everytime we went to the store. So I told her that if she pooped on the potty then I would buy it for her. She pooped that night and once she did it one time we didn't have any more proplems. After that we gave her small rewards for not going in her pants and after about 3 months we were done and had no accidents of any kind and life was good. I think if you can get her to do it once she'll see that it's OK. I know that some kids get a little constipated and it hurts when they try to go, so they thing that it's always going to hurt (had that problem with a neice). Also, if she's using the big potty try putting a stool or something under her feet. It may be more comfortable for her to have her feet on something (as my husband says - you have to have your feet firmly planted to go). Good luck!!

This is what I would do, and did do, get rid of those diapers all together and let her poop her pants, eventually she will get it. It took my daughter a couple days of pooping and peeing her pants to finally get it. She probably peed her pants 5 times in one day. Luckily I was off that day! lol. Just be careful of her holding her poop in because she doesnt want to poop her pants. If this is the case, which Iv heard a lot, take her to the doctor and get professional advice on what to do. Some kids are a little more stubborn than others! Good luck, like I said dont get discouraged if she poops or pees her pants like a million times.....she will get it!

Try leaving her panties ON instead of putting on her pullup! She is just waiting for you to put it on for her so she can go poop. I've done this with three kids...it works...take her panties off and stay in the bathroom. She will get to the point where she will have to go and probably start begging for her pullup to be put on. Stand firm!!! When she is ready to go, just put her on the toilet and reassure her and she will probably go in the potty. I did this with my first daughter (who was 2 years 8 months and was doing this exact same thing which drove me crazy!)and she whined and begged for about 10 minutes and finally when she realized I was not going to put on her pullup, she agreed to sit on the potty. She pooped as soon as I put her on (literally) and that was the LAST day she ever wore a pullup again. Funny thing was we were on vacation at the time and this all took place in our hotel suite! It was big girl underwear only from that day on. My other two started using the potty at 20 months and full time right after turning 2 once I learned not to keep caving in and stand firm. Best of luck to you...good luck...be patient it will happen. :-)

Good Morning M S, This is very normal, alot of children if they have held it in for a while know it will hurt their little hinnys. So when they are asleep they are relaxed enough it passes. Our 4 yr old gr son wore a pull-up at nap and bed time until maybe 6-8 months ago.

So for some children this is very natural and normal.
I would take Corbin to poop when I saw him doing the ole man shuffle, sit him down, and I would read to him or we would sing silly songs until he was relaxed enough. sometimes he didn't even realize it had passed. Other times we would do the Push It Out, Push it Out, Way out!! 1,2,3 Push..
If he still couldn't go we waited a little longer.

Give her a little more time MS and try not to scolder her over much or be upset. She will get it soon.

God Bless you and yours

My daughter did exactly the same thing, we even had the eek eek have to poop dance, where she would go and get a diaper....this went on for about 2 or 3 weeks, and then one day she finally went poop on the potty, we had a huge party for her, and have been good to go ever since!! The doctors all told me to not let her hold it in, if the diaper was what worked for now then that was it, eventually they will go, and she did.
Just be patient and be glad that she is not holding it, one day it will just happen!!

just a thought (my son is 2 1/2 and hasn't shown a lot of interest yet...) but how about leaving her panties on for naptime? it sounds like she is capable of going just needs a little extra incentive. sounds like she doesn't want to go in her panties so she waits until she has a pullup on. just a thought...good luck!
