I really want to make my son happy for his birthday. He loves farm animals. I am having a really hard time finding a park in LA County that accepts ponies or a petting zoo onto their premises. I am looking in LA County/San Fernando Valley. Please let me know if you had a good experience in a particular park or if you know of one that I can bring animals. Also any recommendations of a company that takes great care of their animals.

What can I do next?

Have you though about Griffith Park? They have ponies already there along with a train you can ride around the park.

Why not have your party at the zoo?? I can't imagine it costs too much more than ordering your own petting zoo and getting all the permits and stuff... It would be way less work for you and would be lots of fun for the kids... Just tell all the moms to bring their strollers and walking shoes... I bet the zoo has party packages where the kids could have lunch in a designated party area and there has to be a pet n play area at the zoo somewhere...

I would definitely look into it... I hope your party ends up great!!

Hello Y.,
I took my children to a wonderful petting zoo in San Juan Capistrano. They charge $5.00 a person I think to get into the wonderful petting zoo. It is right across from the train depot. They even have a beautiful area for birthday parties if you want them to do it for you.
Another place I have taken my kids is Adventure city. It is a mile past Knotts berry farm and it is a children's amusement park with a petting zoo. It is for ages 3 to 12. It was $11.00 per person the last time I went. They also do a $1.00 off for auto-club. I took my own cake and drinks and had it at the outside table right by the entrance. But they also do birthday parties. Good luck. D.

Hi,
I don't know about a park that lets you have a petting zoo, but I did hire a petting zoo for my daughter's first birthday a few years ago at our house and they were great. They were called "Party Ponies and Friends". They have pony rides and petting zoos and I found them because they are used by the Studio City Farmer's Market every Sunday.

Their number is ###-###-####. The owners names are Dale and Bette Bookout.

They did a great job with my daughter's party. They set up on my patio and were very good about keeping everything clean and especially making sure the kids used the wipes and sanitizer (which they provided) after petting the animals.

Perhaps they know of a location that will allow it.

Good luck!

Have you considered Animal Acres, about 45 minutes north of downtown L.A.? The animals seem to be very well maintained.

I know that Tijera Rejada Farms has pony rides and animals, and they do have birthday parties there. It's in Moorpark, but if you're in the west San Fernando Valley, it's really not that far away. Anyway, I don't have their online address, but I'm sure you can google them and find out more! Good luck!

Why don't you just have his party at Griffith Park where they have ponies, a little train and right across the street a merry-go-round and plenty of areas for picknicking.

Hi, I was actually going to do the same for my son for one of his birthday's in Pasadena and the city did approve the animals for me. It was a little too late for me because animals do require special permits and additional deposit, and I requested it pretty late. But, here the park that we held the party at that approved the ponies:

Look for SINGER PARK

It was a year ago, and if I am not mistaken, they may only allow the pony rides or animals in the parking area/concrete. But, I remembered I didn't think that was a problem at all since the spot that we chose for the party was located right next to the parking area. The park was not a huge one, but, it is nice and well kept. We had a prime spot and a huge area to work with and the party went extremely well with the rest of the elements.

All you would need to do is reserve your spot with the city parks people and put down a deposit. They're very great to work with! And, if I was right about the animals on the concrete, then, request the SW OPEN AREA, the closest to the parking lot and most private area of the park.

Good luck!

I will check with the woman we use for pony and zoo rentals and see what parks she has been to without any problems.
Email or call me later this afternoon. I know she has been crazy lately dealing with a colicky foal so it has been taking her a few hours to get back to me lately.

Hi Y.,

Check out the Pony Farm on Tampa - you can probably have your party there.
