I was wondering if anyone out there has vonage for their phone service? If so - how do you like it.

What can I do next?

W. - Vonage is great if you rarely use your phone & instead rely on cell phones. My husband and I both primarily use our cell phones for any calls, but I just couldn't let go of a home phone number and so I switched to Vonage about 2 years ago. I don't use my home phone for much, really, so Vonage is pretty good.

If you intend to actually use your home phone for most of your communication needs, I don't recommend it. The service can be sketchy (regardless if your internet is up and running) and clarity on calls is pretty nonexistent. One pro to it - you get an email everytime you have a message. For some reason, I really like that feature!

If you're looking to just save money on your bill, look into package deals w/ internet, cable, and phone. I've heard they can be pretty good and take the pain out of such a high phone bill.

We've had Vonage for almost 2 months, and I'm not at all inpressed so far. Once or twice we've had no service for a full day (I've had to use my cell phone to make my business calls, as I work from home), even though we had internet service. And often after I've been on the phone for about 10 minutes, the connection gets very staticky and the other caller can't hear me. Also, our caller ID doesn't identify people who call on cell numbers by name anymore, which is a pain sometimes. Vonage said that would fix itself after a month, but it hasn't.

We've had it for a little over 2 years and like it. I hate when the internet goes down but since I have a cell now that Im prego its no big deal cause I have it set up that if my internet goes down it just forwards any calls to my cell phone so I dont miss any calls.

We currently have vonage and it is ok. I would whole heartedly prefer to have my phone seperate from my internet because when you have trouble with your net...there goes your phone too! A friend of mine tried to use them, but can't because of her home alarm system...it has to have a LAND line...not an internet line. There are a lot of things to consider! I have never had to call 911 on it, but I have heard there can be issues with that also.

I do, however, like the price of it. I can call my family back home all I want for the same price...so we deal with the drawbacks of it for that reason....

Hope this helps!!!
hugs and blessings

I have Packet 8 VOIP which is the Vonage competition. It is very inexpensive($25 a month) for unlimited calling. It has worked nice since we don't have a land line just cell phones. They have been reliable and it was easy to set up etc. I think the website is www.packet8.com I set it up through the work at home company I work for which included a free phone etc. but I think you can just go to their website for details.

We've had it for a couple years now, and it's great as long as you have a reliable, fast internet connection. I'd recommend it wholeheartedly, except they seem to be getting into some trouble right now, for copyright infringement, I think. Hope this helps!

Happy Mother's Day!

We have had Vonage for 2 years now and there are days that I love it and really hate it. We have been without a home phone for 6 days now...and after a 45 minute phone call they still do not know what is wrong. About every 2-3 months I am calling the company because my phone is down...we have really great internet service too. I have been so tempted to switch, but it is about half what we used to pay and I really do not want to go through the hassle of changing my number with everyone...however, right now I am sitting on the fence...if I don't get phone service up this week I am switching.

Hi W.,

I personally do not have vonage but my neighbor does. They have several compaints that we were just talking about last night. They had to give a checking account for automatic withdrawals before they could get service. I personally have not had a full conversation with them because they might not have enough signal or something, worse than on cell phones. They have been trying to get them to disconnect their service for about 3 months now & have been unsuccessful. They are having to go a step further & contact them & let them know they are sending a certified letter of disconnection & will go to the BBB if unsuccessful. I hope this helps & if you decide to go with this company that you have better luck than they have had.
