P90X - Any Moms Can Offer Advice?

I have been thinking about trying this program for a while. I would like to get your thoughts on how you feel about it. Also do you just continue with the same program after the first 90 days? How do you maintain?

Currently I work out at the gym 4-5 days a week (strength (2-3x weekly) and a mixture of other things such as: kick boxing, strength/aerobics mixed, pilates, yoga, spinning) and run or walk on the days I don't go to the gym. I consider myself active, but would like more definition. I also would not want to give up going to the gym because I am not as motivated at home.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I really enjoy the classes at my gym but sometimes I feel like I am a rut and need a change. I go on my days off and before work on the other days, I also walk/run on my lunch break if I get it. Thanks for your input!

My advice - buy it on Craigslist. We just did at half the price. Brand new, still in the wrap and there were tons of them out there.

I am also very active, run marathons (to kick myself into shape in warm months) and love weight training as well. I bought that set 3 years ago and I Love it. In the winter I use it more than in the summer, but now I just do that tapes I like in my own order. I did do the program, and YES it works! I lost 10 lbs, but toned up nicley and my arms looked better than EVER. I did not have too much I neeed to lose, just to firm up what gets flabby... I like food, therefore I work out! I used to go to the gym, but had to drop the membership due to financial issues, but this is by far the best set of tapes I have ever owned. I actually prefer doing these over the gym just because I have done them so long that I know which tapes in the set I like better than others. If you like to work hard and get results this set is Great.LOVE IT! (think I said that just a few times) good luck:-)

A girlfriend of mine has this and it's basically all of the same things you're doing. It's a really varied workout routine to keep your muscles "confused." The thing that really gets the definition, in her opinion, is the resistance band stuff that they do in the program.

I would spend the money on a personal trainer at your gym...

I have worked out for years. I got P90X last fall for a change up in my routine. I really liked it. I thought the workouts were better than those I did in the classes at the gym and you will get definition if you stick with it, it is initially a 6 day a week commitment. I did get the pull up bar and used weights because I just don't like using bands. I am now training for a couple of runs in the fall and use the P90X workout videos on my cross training days.

Good luck!!

My husband and I have been doing the P90x for 2 weeks and we really like it. It is 6 days and week and most of the workouts are about an hour long.We are also running in the mornings. I can already see definition in my arms after 2 week, I am very excited about that. I am doing this mostly for the definition because I only have about 5 pounds that i would want to lose. Motivation at home is hard. I am happy I have someone to work out with. The information you get with the DVDs tell you how to maintain after the 90 days (I have not read about it yet, but its in the info), and it gives you an nutrition guide. Good luck!

You may wish to try picking up a copy of Oxygen magazine at your grocery or book store. You seem like someone who is more advanced than the average gym goer and I think you would LOVE the magazine. It is geared toward those who are into weight training, getting that definition to 'pop' and also has great articles for nutrition/clean eating and cardio training without all the fluff and fashion that most fitness magazines have. I've been a subscriber for 2 years now and have a 2" binder of strength training programs that I use to create my workouts. My favorite article was about the carry along principle, which was an article that had intense (but doable) workouts if you wanted to work on problem spots. I used the bicep and tricep program (basically a giant set of 5 lifts/exercises) and saw a HUGE difference. You could see all the definition of the muscle without it looking large and bulky.
