Overnight Cloth Diapering

I've been using cloth diapers at home for a few months now and have found that when my daughter sleeps for 12 hours straight at night (she doesn't every night), she REEKS by the time we change her in the morning because her diapers are so saturated with urine. I don't want to have to wake her up in the middle of the night to change her diaper and I also don't want to have to use disposables at night if there's a better solution. Right now I'm using a Chinese prefold with two hemp doublers and a Bummis Super Whisper Wrap cover overnight. I've already tried fitted & contour Kissaluvs diapers with doublers under the Bummis and don't really care for those. Any suggestions for a good absorbent overnight cloth diaper?

What can I do next?

Is she leaking out, or she just smells of urine when she wakes? If its just that she smells of urine... Im not sure there is much you can do about it. What kind of soap are you washing them in? Sometimes, depending on the soap you use, hte urine will react with it and make it smell terrible! I know that anything like Tide, All, even Purex will make the pee smell just awful. We use Charlies Soap (www.charliesoap.com) and its the best. No scent, washes clean, and gets the diapers so clean. Its cheap too, $12 for abag and it will last for months if you use it for just your diapers. We use ours for all our launry, and it lasts me 2 months on just one bag.

ANYWAY, my point is, if she is leaking out, you may have to try something like a pocket diaper with a couple extra stuffers in it. If its just the smell, its probably the urine reacting with the smell of the diaper left behind from the laundry detergent you are using.

I use the mother-ease one size dry diapers with the extra snap in lining for overnight, I also use the mother-ease diaper covers and have great success! You can check them out at www.motherease.com

We did cloth with the last two of our three girls and the overnight thing was indeed its own special challenge. We are now trying for our fourth and I've been purusing what's come available on the market since our last--who's already seven years old! As of now, I am planning on getting some of the "little g pants" wraps/covers and using them (along with my Nicky's and such) with cloth diapers during the day and the flushable g-diapers for overnight. Its the new "hybrid diaper"--Check it out for yourself! www.gdiapers.com/shop/

Have you tried Fuzzibunz at all- I think you can put more aborbsency for at nite- they work awesome during day too! Otherwise Im trying to remember what I used there was a WAHM company called Baby Softwraps and they had fleece wraps and she had snap in soakers (heavier ones for night and she also had too) they worked very well may even have some around here. Try Diaperpin.com I think they give reviews and all sorts of styles- sometimes a little overwhelming! Good Luck
feel free to email ive gotten 2 thru cd's and there are way too many choices out there which can be confusing but that site might help-take care H.

I have had the same problem with my super soaker. You should try a VBSN (Very Baby Simply Nights). Mine is bamboo but they come in hemp and organic cotton, too (I think there is another option too but I can't remember it). Mine is from BlueLakeDiapers.com but if you google it you should find some other places to get them. I also use a Happy Hempy stuffed with a microfiber insert and a hemp insert all under a Stacinator wool cover. That works well, too. Good luck! :o)
