Organizing Kinder Stuff?

Hi moms - my son started kindergarten and the amount of paper that comes home is crazy. 2-3 sheets minimum of stuff he's done (cutting, coloring, a craft or drawing). Maybe 1-3 sheets of stuff that is related to the school. I think I can trash most of the handout stuff, and the stuff he's done at school.

Is there an organizer tool that you recommend for the keep and review stuff? I do have file folders and stuff like that, so if there's no special tool, but you have a great method for keeping/tracking, what is it?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Most of the stuff goes in the trash. Unless it's a really good piece of art that I feel I need to keep, all of the daily work/drawings go in the trash. When I want to keep something, I toss it in a box in my daughter's closet. The informational stuff, I have a magnet clip in the kitchen that I keep that in. That way, I am continuously reminded about important dates, etc., whenever I walk by it. It has really worked, I never really forget due dates, order forms, etc.

If you have a scanner, scan in the projects, save on your pc and then make a snapfish or shutterfly book of that year's creations.

My organizational tool? The circular file....I.e, the garbage can. I look at it, say how impressed I am and toss most of it. I do keep things here or there that are really detailed projects or have something I think I I would like to look back on in 20 years.

I have a file for each kid for things I do keep and then go through it at the end of the year. I keep what I want in a folder to put in their keepsake box. It really isn't a lot though and not very organized. Wish I had more time.

Some people say take pics of everything so your can make a photo book out of it.

Maybe it's because I have 4 kids...I just can't keep everything.

I kept artwork displayed for a week then photographed it and eventually downloaded it on the computer titled kindergarten artwork usually with at least a month for dating it, one horizontal photo, one vertical photo. If it was sentimental, or exceptional, I kept it for his box. Otherwise, it ended up in the recycle pile when he wasn't home. I'm still working on a Shutterfly photo book, adding highlights of photos of him through the school year-first day, Halloween, class parties and field trips, kindergarten grad.
The weekly calendar got recycled so did the other fliers etc.

Only keep the really "cool" stuff. Scribbles, worksheets, and nonsense flyers go directly into the recycle bin.

Pinterest has lots of cool ideas on what to do with your child's art work.

Most of it just got glanced at then tossed or recycled.
We got a weekly school newsletter which I usually put on my nightstand with my other reading material, but now that comes by email. I just put it in my email "school" folder and look at it when I have time.
The only stuff I held onto were special things, like mothers day cards, pictures and poems, hand prints, really special writing or artwork, and a few writing journals.
p.s. Don't let them see you throw any of their work away, they will be crushed!

I usually save all of their original work (throw out the worksheets) and keep it until the end of the year in a big box. Then i review it and pick out some of the keepers and set those in a file. I would often share some of the art work with grandparents and aunts and uncles. I have a tendency to keep too much, but you never know what might be significant down the road. Just went through my kids stuff (age 25 and 30) and pared it down even more. It was so much fun for them and me to go through some of their old papers- especially some of those on what they planned to do in the future! I think now with the advent of scanners and i-phones you could scan or take photos of what you thought was important. I did have a separate holiday file where i kept their holiday project (ornament, story, picture, wish lists) and we used to look at those each Christmas. Enjoy these years, they go quickly! Anything you keep, write down the grade and the date!

I keep it for a little while until my dd forgets about it, then toss.

Only special things are kept for scrapbooking, but right now, just a big box
