Online Classes

With the economy and jobs the way they are, and my need to a change, I am considering taking online courses. I don't know if I want to bother with a degree or just take some course to get up to speed on new things, ideas, etc. Have any of you gone through the online University classes and had success? I do not want nor can afford to waste money on something that will not get me anywhere. Since my hubby works nights and I work days, taking night classes at a physical school is not a possibility.

Itsacrazylifewith4,

I have taken online classes through my local community college and it's much easier than I thought it would be. It's saferand cheaper. If you use a online University you take a chance of knowing which credits will be accepted if you decide to go to a larger university. Cheaper o so much cheaper!

i have been trying to go back and finish my online classes from intercontinental university or icu online. with the kids and my work schedule being changed up a few times i can finally get back on track. this specific online university also has a brick and mortar school that you can supplement your online courses with if you wish to do so. they are fully accredited and thats the most important part of online schooling. whats the point in doing it if it means nothing to anyone in the real world right. so thats the most important part. i was trying to get my associates degree in business management and human resources. the classes were interesting and challenging and there are some group projects that you have to complete. but overall the experience itself was great. i took an accelerated course which would get me my degree in about 18months so it was a bit more expensive, but if you go on line now a days there are so many schools to choose from. you want to also make sure that your credits that you earn online can be applied to a differnt school later on, in case you want to further your education and feel like you now have the time to go to a brick and mortar school. its a great way to fill in your time, when i was doing the classes most of my class work and research was getting done about 10pm til 2am....but the classes are very flexible and you just have to make your deadline for your homework and projects. you can do the work whenever its easiest for you. if you have any other questions you can feel free to mail me, but as long as its a fully accredited online university and credits earned can be applied later to differnt schools then you should be good to go. good luck

I highly recommend doing online classes through your nearest community college. There are lots of alternatives and you can be sure that it is a "real" school and the credits/certificates/degrees will be accepted by employers and other schools. I am taking 2 classes online this summer and 2 more next semester.

I haven't taken on-line classes (I've heard they are much harder than going to school), so I'm not sure if you have to order books or read the books on-line. If you have to get books, I can suggest renting from www.chegg.com. I just finished getting my BA degree from Benedictine University and in the last 2 years, I saved just over $1,600.00 in renting from chegg instead of buying them. If you use code CC104388, you will save 5-11% off their already low book rentals.

To be on the safe side, I had always double checked other book rental places to insure I was getting the absolute lowest prices and Chegg prices were always the lowest.

The code doesn't expire so you can reuse it over and over again.

Good luck and as I tell everyone, if I can work full time, go to school full time and take care a family, anyone can do it.

Good luck and don't quit!

P.S. They have free return shipping. If you already have books you've purchased and no longer have a need for Chegg will also buy them back from you. If you use that code, they will give you an additional $5.00 per book back.

Yes they can work, but you need to be computer savy and organized. It still takes time and there are still deadlines just like normal classes and they usually don't cost less. Also be sure if your thinking about a degree it is from a recognized accredited college , otherwise your hard work may not be accepted as ligitamit.(I wish this had spell check) but you get my drift. I took one for computing and passed but I had a hard time. It was more difficult than I thought it would be.
Good Luck

Check out your local community college. Most all schools offer online degrees now and that way if you do need something from on campus, you're right there in town. I also know a few people that have had great success w/the U of Phoenix program.

I agree with Christina! I took online classes at a Community college in my area and I loved them!! There is nothing better than doing your school work when it's a good time for you. Sunday morning before the kids get up or midnight on a tuesday. I found them to be ten times easier than regular classes because i was choosing the times to work rather than having to go at a specific time.

I have taken a couple of online courses through the University of Phoenix. The courses I needed were not available through my local community college. I have been very pleased with the format for the courses. I had two highly qualified instructors. The university does a fabulous job checking in with you to make sure the class is going well. I was very impressed. I definitely agree that you have to be committed. I spent every evening from 8 pm to midnight or later working on the computer to keep up with the work load. Definitely need good computer skills. Reading the text book on the computer was a big change for me. Best of luck to you.
