No Gec Sac Found

Hello moms! I just need some advice or to hear other experiences. I am pregnant and it's been confirmed. My last period was 8/4 but conception took place either on 8/15 or 8/18 (the days we tried). I started to bleed Thursday night and had to change underwear but the bleeding has not started up again since only minor spotting here and there. I went to the doc Friday morning and my hcg levels were 1600 which was good I guess but the doc didn't see the sac. So she ordered me to go to the ER this morning to check my levels again as well as an ultrasound. I have also been experiencing mild menstrual cramps but not to the point of wanting to take medicine. At the ER still no sac was found and my levels dropped to 1400. Right now they are calling it a threatened miscarriage and say chances of miscarrying soon are likely. I know that when I bled I did not pass any blood clots so I know that I haven't miscarried yet. Doc also says it may be to early to see the sac but also there is a concern of ectopic pregnancy but right now, everything looks such as my ovaries and such appear normal. I don't know if there is still hope that the sac will appear and for me not to miscarry or if it's a loss cause. I guess if anyone has had a similar experience, please share. Thanks again!

So What Happened?

Thank you for all that replied with such kind words. An update...my hcg levels did increase over the weekend but today my doctor did a vaginal us and again didn't see anything in the uterus. She did however find something in my left falopian tube which was concluded as ectopic. I went for a second opinion/us in the radiology department to be absolutely sure the same findings were found which they were. I went back to my doctor's office and they gave me the mexodrate shot to terminate the pregnancy. I am very, very sad but I know that this baby was never ours to begin with and that God's is holding my precious baby in his hands. I am blessed to have found that this was ectopic before it ruptured.

I went through the same thing... Went to the hospital... and the doctor had already told me that misscarried! So I was all sad and crying. they they did a regular ultrasound and saw nothing at all! after everything was said and done doctor ordered a vaginal ultrasound thingy and the tech said nothing. then when he came to discharge me, so i thought, he said that the tech saw the sac!!
So I suggest doing that!!
I was 8 weeks at the time.
GOOD LUCK!

I am so sorry for your situation. I went thru a smiliar situation with my 2nd pregnancy. I had bleeding, and an ultrasound, and they couldn't find anything, as well as the bloodwork. My levels were lower than yours to begin with, and kept dropping. I was spotting the first 2 days, but then started passing clots. I do remember it was painful cramps. I knew something was wrong, but don't know if that is the same for everyone. I also want you to know that if you do miscarry, it is hard, but you will get through it. A year after my MC I had a healthy normal and perfect baby girl. God Bless you in this situation.

I've had three miscarriages and just wanted to tell you that my thoughts and prayers are with you. (I now have two beautiful children.)
If you do miscarry, please that it is not your fault. There most likely was a genetic abnormality that caused the problem.
There are miscarriage support groups you can join ... there are some online groups as well as in-person ones.
In the meantime, try to relax and take it easy. And hug your beautiful Novalee.

Hi, I just went through the exact same thing in May. I found out that I was preg. mid April. I too started with lite spotting and a week later I lost the baby. It took almost a whole week for the miscarrage to finish. It is very heart breaking. I was told that I would never be able to get pregnat 15 years ago, so this was mirical for my husband and I. I have not given up hope that it will happen again, because my Dr. assures me that the operation I had prior to getting preg. corrected the problem of not getting pregnate. Just say your prayers and ask God to put his arms around you, this is going to be a very hard and emotional experience. My prayers are with you, and if you need to talk feel free to contact me.

Dear L.,

Prayers are with you and your husband. I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks and that was followed by a successful pregnancy, so life does happen after a miscarriage.

I would be concerned about the ectopic pregnancy - that can be painful and cause damage - so, ask the Dr. more about that.

My miscarriage happened after some spotting, but that was several weeks prior. The Dr. will likely tell you all of this, but it helped me to hear it from several people:

1. If you miscarry, it is not your fault.
2. Often miscarriages happen because the pregnancy wouldn't have been able to be carried to full-term
3. You can have a successful pregnancy and soon!

Wishing you many blessings and if you have any further questions, let me know.
Peace,
Stacy

Hi L.,

I had a miscarriage that started with similar experiences to yours, and they were also concerned about ectopic pregnancy. It turned out to be just a normal miscarriage. BUT that's no easy thing. Lots of medical professionals will tell you it's just like a heavy period, but for me, it was like a mini-labor. It was physically and mentally exhausting and draining. Make sure you have some support for yourself...hopefully you can take some time off work and get someone to take care of your daughter while you take care of yourself.

I went on to have a beautiful baby boy. But the miscarriage was h*** o* us. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hi L.,

I am sorry to say that the decline in your hcg levels are not a good sign. If your hcg levels continue to fall, you are having a miscarriage. If your hcg levels continue to stay around the same level, then the doctor will be concerned about ectopic pregnancy. This is what happened to me with my first pregnancy. The doctors could not see anything on the ultrasounds and were only able to rely on monitoring my hcg levels every 24-48 hours. I have another friend who had a similar sounding situation and her baby miraculously appeared on the subsequent ultrasound. Bottom line, you have to take charge of your health. Stay in close communication with your doctor. I would imagine they are doing this anyway, but ectopic pregnancy can be a life-threatening situation and you absolutely MUST make sure you are being watched very closely. If you have any questions about my experience, etc., please don't hesitate to contact me. Just to encourage you, please know that you can get past this, whatever the outcome may be! Our second pregnancy was a beautiful, perfect, healthy baby girl! Sending a big <<<HUG>>>> your way!

L.,

I'm sorry to say that it is not very encouraging to hear that your hcg levels are declining. But, only time and tests will tell you what is happening, so get that done to ease your mind.

I just wanted to write something to you that is actually part of my response to another mother-to-be on this board. It's never easy to go through a miscarriage both physically and emotionally, but here's a bit of encouragement from my experience:

"As an aside, in March of 2003, I lost a baby at 12 weeks. I did miscarry, and the sonographer said that the development she could see was not normal. Of course, it broke our hearts that all of this happened. In July of the same year, I became pregnant again, and we always marvel at the fact that had this miscarriage not occurred, we wouldn't have our Brycie. We don't know who we missed out on having, but we cannot fathom not having him."

Best wishes and my thoughts are with you.

I did actually go through that with my first pregnancy. Turns our that I miscarried, but that there were TWINS. I had no idea. The surviving twin was born early, but healthy.

I am currently going through it again and just remind myself that that there is always hope. You might like to look at this site. http://www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com/

It has stories similar to others I've heard and always encourages me. It also made me more alert to not having a D&C at the drop of a hat (some have done when the baby wasn't dead) and in reading about ectopic pregnancies have read of instances where there was a uterine AND tubal pregnancy (twins) so be careful about taking the meds they like to give to induce miscarriage with the tubal. It is possible to save the uterine pregnancy if that's the case, but you'd have to wait a little longer to find out if there's a baby.

You likely won't see anything on the ultrasound until the end of next week or the following week, it's just so soon. I have an apt Tuesday and I know they'll want to do an ultrasound but I am reminding myself that it's unlikely they will see anything yet.

S., mom to 10, with only 4 living children (miscarriages at 5,6,9 weeks and stillborn at 40 weeks)
