No Dental Insurance--both My Girls Need Braces

I have 2 girls that are in need of braces as soon as they have lost there baby teeth. We don't have any dental insurance. How can we even afford this expense with out it? I have the girls going to Miles of Smiles right now for cleanings and fillings but they don't do orthodontics. Miles of Smiles is a free service for children that live in Clay-Platte County that fall within the income guidelines. I only wish there was a program similar to that for braces.

What can I do next?

Try Dr. Loren Crist up on Barry Road, his number is ###-###-####. He is very resonable & you get a small discount for having two at one time. You have to put down $300.00 at the time of service to put them on & then they give you a payment plan (for each one) & it's grrrrreat! I've had mine, my oldest (paid out of pocket) & now my youngest has them too. I've referred several people to him & NO I don't get a discount but he's just that good....you'll love him. He'll tell you what you need FREE of charge. Listen, I also sell Mary Kay part-time (for extra cash) & the money is awesome, do you think you might be interested in trying it out for the extra cash? It has many, many fringe benefits as well. It's just an idea I offer to women when I see that their is a need in their life. I commend you for even wanting/seeing this for your daughters. In Mary kay, I truly have learned that I can acheive ANYTHING that I put my mind to. I've over come some financial burdens because of it & I work it as little/much as I want, it ALL depends on my need(s). Good luck & God Bless!

Hi L.,
Orthodontics are considered cosmetic so I'm sure you won't find any free services. What you can do is call around to Orthodontis offices in your area and ask about their payment plans, most will let you finance the full cost. My 13 yr. old wears braces right now and my 11 yr. old needs them too. This summer I'm taking my daughter in for a consult to find out the cost. Luckily they are 2 yrs. apart like your children, your 9 yr. old may not be quite ready for braces yet. Maybe only take your 11yr. old now and wait a few years for your other daughter. This way you don't have to worry about both of the girls wearing braces at the same time. You're a great mom for wanting to do this for your girls, I hope you find an affordable orthodontist to help you. Take care, V.

UMKC dental school does ortho. There is a small fee. I believe its under $500.00. Mostley for supplies. I was a student at the school and many children came through the program. Be prepaired to wait because it is orthodontic students doing the work but they have already graduted dental school. You will be visiting the clinc every 4-6 weeks. I don't think you will find any orthodontist in a private practice to do ortho for free. Most will do a few charity cases but it usually comes from a referal from a agency or a church. Good Luck. S.

Have you contacted the Dental School? I don't know if they do ortho, but it's worth a try.
