Hello Austin Moms!

My husband, daughter, and I just moved to Austin a week ago. My daughter is 22 months old and is in desperate need to play at a playground or playgroup. I'm not the best at googling to find where playgrounds are. Right now we are in a temporary apartment until we find a permanent place to live. So we are currently residing in the zip code of 78750. We are right off of 360 and RM 2222. If anybody could help that would be great. She so desperately wants to play outside and it is definitely hot but I've gotta keep her busy. :) Thanks for listening! Have a wonderful day and weekend!

Cedar Park has a great playground/sprinkler park area (free!)
Go north on 183, exit Cypress Creek, go east. follow across Parmer. It'll be on your right, less than a mile after the intersection at Parmer (the road changes from Cypress Creek to Brushy Creek, I believe).

Some other fun places to go are:
Zilker Park - playground and train - from Mopac, head south and follow the signs for Zilker

Radijazz - This is over by Highland Mall. Take 2222 and go east until you see the ACC building. It's in a shopping center on the outside of the mall - close to I-35

Ready, Set, Play - In Round Rock off of exit 251 - It's an inflatable bounce-house place.

CedarRock Railroad - County Park off of 1431 and Sam Bass - great train for kids, park and playscape area.

Children's Museum - downtown at 2nd and Colorado - love love love it! Perfect for hot days!

Try meetup.com - I bet you can find a mom's group that'll be fun of fun ideas!

Go to MomsClub.org and click on "finding a chapter near you". I have been participating in Moms Club in Round Rock and before in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. It is very organized. The members set up play dates at different place, usually 3 - 5 times a week, so there is always something to go to! It's a great way to meet other moms, get support, and find out everything you need in Austin where you live, because it is organized by area. All the moms in my Round Rock club live within 2 miles of my house! I moved here 4 months ago and have found the club to be an invaluable resource for doctors, hair cuts, swim lessons, whatever you need for your family! There is a cost of $25 per year to cover costs, but if you are unable to pay, you can ask the fee to be waived or reduced. Good luck!

If you google the austin parks and recreation department it will give you a list if locations, If you are up for a short drive on special days or any other days try Zilker park they have a train you can ride for 2-3$ each that is 30 minutes long and leaves every 45 minutes or so not too far from the playground. Also right there is Barton springs pool to swim in and down the street they just opened up a free park next to palmer auditorium across from auditorium shores where fountains shoot up out of the ground sporadically and the kids love to run through them, best of all it's free!have fun! Welcome to Austin!

Hi R.!

Welcome to Austin. =)

There is a great site that can give you a listing of play groups in the Austin/ Cedar Park area. http://www.meetup.com

I am currently in a group called Our Moms Group or OMG. http://parents.meetup.com/467/

All the kidos are roughly in the same age range and there are about 5 moms currently pregnant and due all around the same time July, Aug, Sept. and some in Oct. LOL.. there must be something in the water!

At any rate, check it out. I think you will find what you are looking for.

Hugs,
J.

We don't live far from you (2222 & Mesa). The playgrounds we frequent are: Perry Playground adjacent to Highland Park Elementary near Balcones and Hancock, Sun Tree Park and Woodlands Park in River Place off 2222 (they are shaded and have bathrooms - http://www.riverplacehoa.org/mud/), and Beverly S. Sheffield Northwest District Park off Burnet.
Definitely visit the Austin Parks & Recreation website: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/parks/default.htm
