I don't normally ask questions. I get info from some of your questions, but my 9 year old has this virus the Dr told me not to worry because chickenpox was also a herpes virus. This started last Wed. Her breath was horrible, so I told her to go brush her. After 2 times I told her I would do it. I just did up a little pressure on it and it started to bleed badly. I was wondering it any of your children have had this and what did you do?

P.S. She had her dental visit on Thursday. MY concern is the pain and the bleeding of the mouth

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

When I carried her back to the dr. Dr said that this was my week of hell and she would be better Monday. Her lips were so dry that were cracked an that was the bleeding. As to a few responses, she's not interested in boys. So we just put carmex on them. And the anti-bacterial mouthwash worked to.

i would take her to the dentist, and not the doctor. It sounds more like a gum disease or something along those lines. Does she floss?? Does she seem to have a type of acid reflux?? Bad breath can come from food wedged in teeth, or bad gums, or acid in her stomach, often caused by stress. But... there is an issue, and I think a good dentist would be your best bet. Good luck!

Go get some Oral-B mouth wash from Target. It is for mouth sores whether it be from biting, toothbrushing or canker sores. My daughter has this problem from time to time as well and this mouth wash works WONDERS! At first she didn't like it, but her mouth hurt so bad she gave it a try (she's 4) and now she uses it on her own! She KNOWS it works and helps her and we never argue about it :)

Sounds like a visit to the dentist is in order. Gums usually bleed because of plaque buildup above the gum line, infection, or other gum conditions such as gingivitis. Sometimes it is completely harmless bleeding, such as not brushing properly, however, a dentist needs to be the one to determine what the cause is.

Bad breath can come from a number of things from bacteria in the mouth to stomach problems. I've found with our older kids that Colgate doesn't work well for the bad breath. They can brush for the full 2 minutes (even under supervision to make sure they do it right) and STILL have horrible bad breath. Switched them to Crest and that took care of it.

Edited to say: If the bleeding and pain wasn't going on Thursday when she saw the dentist, then another call to them would be in order. They may want to see her again. There are prescription mouthwashes for pain that can be given.

I could be wrong but I think that is the same as hand foot and mouth disease and most kids get it at one point.

Is it possibly a canker sore? (same thing as a cold sore but inside the mouth) I know I have seen in the toothbrush section of Walmart or Walgreens different types of medications to treat and/or seal up canker sores. Sorry if this is not what you are referring to! Good luck! :)
