I am a first time soon to be mother (10 weeks left). Needless to say, I have no idea of a good pediatrician in my area. Therefore, I am seeking a little bit of advice before I go to start visiting a couple of local doctors. Your help would be greatly appreciated.....almost like a poll! I am in the Conroe area! Thank you ahead of time!

Make appointments with several doctors, they do that for new patients so you can meet them and ask questions, etc. and then follow that 'mothers' instinct'we have.
Ask friends & aquaintances for their input on doctors and ask your family physician.
Congrats and God Bless you!

My three boys go to Dr. Murray Fershtman. I think he is former chief of pediatrics at Memorial Hermann - The Woodlands Hospital. His practice is called Forest Pediatrics. They are located on 242 across from Montgomery College. They have evening and weekend hours. There is also a pharmacy next to their office. They have a room for well children only so you don't have to sit next to sick children if you are just there for a well check. I made an appointment to see him when I was pregnant with my first son eight years ago. (No matter who you pick you should probably do that.) He is good at problem solving. Two of my boys had something a little unusual and he figured it out quickly. My boys are not afraid of him. He has three young boys of his own. His office number is ###-###-####. Good luck with your pregnancy and delivery.

Dr Bhakta at Woodlands TCPA on research. Same office mentioned already. I highly recommend him because he saw my daughter when she was born in the woodlands. We liked him so much we switched to him. Thank god we did he saw her a few days after she was born and noticed something with her heart that he did not hear or the other dr who saw her heard. He did us a huge favor and called the top pediatric cardiologist at Texas children's and got a favor to have her seen. She does not take patients but she did it for him. I am so thankful that it turned out all ok in the end, but they were very concerned at the time. He has even called the house to check on her after hours several times when we all got a horrible stomach virus and she went to the hospital during the night. By the way all the dr's at this location have been voted top docs 2 years in a row. He really has gone above and beyond for us. PLUS his nurse is the fastest at vaccinations in the whole office. I use some of the other nurses for a nurse only visit, and it was like watching grass grow. This is more important than you know. I always request her, and she works primarily for him. Dr. Bhakta was chief resident at Childrens hospital in los angeles....do you know what it takes to be chief pediatric resident? So worth the drive!

My response would be to talk with the other teachers at the school you work at. I am sure that they have children or, like myself have grown children, and could possibly direct you to one. If one doctor's name comes up often in conversations then it is a pretty good idea that these Moms are happy with this doctor.

I was in your shoes not so very long ago, when we adopted. Sterling Ridge Pediatrics is in the Woodlands. I see Dr. Susan O'Neil. She is wonderful as is everyone there. They always make an opening for my son. My son is so comfortable with her. My son is a toddler and she has even conducted some of the examination on the floor while playing with him. We both love her

I go to Dr. Crystal Broussard, in the sadler clinic on 242, she is really nice, I have always been able to get my son in the same day. She is board certified which I hear is important to look for because not all doctors are.

Sarah,

My children's pediatrician is Dr. Bernadette Haggerty with Texas Children's Pediatrics located in the Woodlands on Medical Plaza Drive across from Memorial Herman Hospital. The number is ###-###-####. We just love her! I interviewed her when I was pregnant with my first child, who is now almost seven. She really takes her time with each patient and answers all your questions. You never feel rushed. She is very personable, down to earth and great with the kids. I think she is probably in her late thirties, and she has three adorable children.

When our second child was born, she got a virus and had to be hospitalized at only 4 days old. Dr. Haggerty came to the hosipital regularly to check on her and make sure that not only she was taken care of, but me as well. (I was still recovering from having a baby, and I was nursing). She always goes above and beyond. I could go on and on about all the wonderful things she has done for my children over the years, but that would take too long. A few of my friends also have the same pediatrician, and they love her as well.

I think it would be good idea to visit with a few doctors before making your selection. Good luck and congratulations!

S.

Hi Sarah.
I am a first-time mom and I had so much trouble finding the right pediatrician for my son. I live in Montgomery (Lake Conroe). The first ped I tried was Dr. Robinson at Lake Area Pediatrics. He is a very good doctor, but has a very horrible bed-side manner. I had difficulty breastfeeding and instead of trying to help, he continuously put me down and brought me to tears in his office time after time. The next doctor we tried was Dr. Richard Calvin at Conroe Pediatric Associates. He has a good bedside manner, but I decided to switch from him because he subjected my son to so many tests that I felt were unnecessary. He was not gaining weight like the Dr. thought he should. Our family went through hell dealing with all this testing. I hear that Dr. Williams in the same office is a very nice doctor. I have friends that use her, but I felt uncomfortable switching to a doctor in the same office. Finally, we settled on Dr. Flanagan at the Woodlands Pediatric Associates. I have to drive farther, but I am very happy with the doctor. I don't ever feel intimidated by him. He is always very explanatory and asks a lot of questions. I would not rule out going to Dr. Calvin again, because he is a very good doctor, but it was just a really rough time for us to have to deal with his non-explanatory manner. I wish you the best of luck. Sometimes it is hard to find someone that you fit well with. I am happy to share any of my experiences with you if you ever want to talk. After all, I am not too far away!

We have been seeing Dr. Lapis at Texas Children's Pediatrics (on Research in the Woodlands) for 7 years with both our daughters. Not only is Dr. Lapis great, but so are her associates. I'm always able to get my "sick" girls in on the same day I call and if Dr. Lapis isn't available one of her associates is. Dr. Flanagan is great and so is Dr. Irani. In addition, the 3 locations, there's one in Conroe and another in the Woodlands, rotate and are open on Saturday mornings for "sick" kids. This really nice and has saved us several trips waiting in the ER. I wish my own doc was as good as the TCPA docs are. Dr. Irani and Dr. Lapis also made the "best Ped. Dr." list in Texas Monthly. Good luck.

Asma Siddiqui at Kelsey-Seybold in The Woodlands. They are next to St. Luke's hospital at the corner of I-45 and FM 242. The phone number is ###-###-####. She is very sweet, thorough and she knows my children by name. We never wait more than 10 minutes in the waiting room, either!

Conroe Pediatrics Kara Froelich, MD is very good. We moved here a little over two years ago and I couldn't seem to find the right pediatrician as daughter and son and had the same one for over eight years now. She is great, listens answers questions, appreciates a mother who "looks things up on the web" and asks questions. Great personality and talks to the children. Interview her and see what you think. She is wonderful with my daughter who is ten now and my son who is four.
