Im 36 Wks pregnant with my first child (a boy!)! I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on a "new dad" gift to give to my fiance (the baby's father). I wanted something small that i could stick in my hospital bag and give to him right after the birth. Does anyone have any cool ideas besides the typical "dad" t-shirt or "dad" themed books? Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Thank you to everyone for all of the great ideas! Not only have I decided on a great "new dad" gift ( the willow tree new dad figure) but I also received so many other great ideas that I can use for my fiance's first father's day and also for his birthday! Thanks again for all of the great ideas!

If he's into sports give him a new football or a baseball glove with a child size glove and say looks like you'll be needing this!

When my daughter was born, I bought my husband an inexpensive pocket watch and took it to an engraver. On the back I had her name, birth date and weight and length engraved and on the front I had "Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a Daddy". It's a little hard to read, because the lettering is small and might work better on a plaque, but he loves it and carries it with him always.

How about ear plugs so he can sleep through the night? Or a bottle so he can help in those late night feedings? My DH got a "kit" with earplugs, a bottle, mask, and a few "shaving kit" things (because he won't have as much time to shop for hygiene things now). He loved it. Congratulations!

Congratulations on expecting your first child! I'd recommend getting dad something he could use with the new baby. Maybe a kid size ball and glove (to play catch with daddy), or a child carrier for the back of the bike. Something that he might not use right away, but he can look forward to using soon - it will come fast. Another idea (I'm going to do this for my hubby), is to get him a "cool" dad diaper bag. JJ Cole (Target) Logic Bag is really neat - slim design to carry just a few diapers, wipes, and basics. But it is small, so keep that in mind. Or, they make other cool Diaper Dude bags - something that he could use to take the baby out and about and be happy to carry.

Have fun!

Although it's an expensive gift, a really nice heirloom quality watch is a beautiful gift to give to the new dad when the baby is born, with the intent that he will pass this heirloom along to his son some day. We've done this and I love the idea that through the years we'll have pictures with my husband wearing this watch with our 2 boys growing up and that they boys will remember their dad wearing it and it will be theirs some day (one watch for each boy). If you're looking for a less expensive gift, a tie is a good option...although it may be a little strange for you to be half naked giving birth while your husband wears a formal shirt and tie - but, same idea...those first pictures with dad and son he'll be wearing that tie and some day he can give it to his son if he wants.

this was actually for the first fathers' day, but I gave my husband an engraved pocket watch. I also made a photo album called "Daddy and Me" and I continue to put pictures in there of just my son and his dad. Good luck on the birth of your first child!

I gave my husband a Willow Tree figurine. They are more masculine than a Precious Moments, but touch the heartstrings just a much. It also helped him to know that I liked them. I have received a few from him...birth of 2nd child, Christmas ornaments.

Best of luck with your new bundle of joy!

Congrats on your soon-to-be little boy!

When my son was born I gave my husband a Willow Tree figurine of a father holding a tiny baby on his lap and the father is bent over just studying this new little person. I wondered if a figurine was too feminine, or if it would just sit around and collect dust, but he actually loved it because the dad just looks like a normal young guy in jeans and he is obviously absorbed with the new little one. It is in my son's room and for many months my husband would hold my son just like the guy in the figurine and talk to him about anything and everything. It was adorable!

Good luck and I'm sure he will love whatever you choose!

I also gave my husband the Willow Tree statue mentioned below. I have it out with our pictures of our son. I was not sure how much my husband really liked it, but when I suggested I put it away I was told absolutely not!

A nice "Me & Dad" picture frame is adorable. That 1st snapshot of dad holding his bundle of joy is always a precious moment. When our daughter was born we got one that had a teddy bear attached to a picture frame and it is now in her room at all times. She knows that her dad was there for the first time when she was born. Congratulations and enjoy your soon to be newborn!

I got my husband the kids book "What Dad's Can't Do". It's so cute and it's small enough to stick in your bag. You can get it fairly cheap on Amazon. Congrats on your baby!!!

It is hard to buy for guys in this situation. My husband isn't a figurine kind of guy but a t-shirt for the baby would be cute that says "Daddy's future golfing buddy" or whatever his hobby may be would be cute.

How about a nice cigar to celebrate the birth? Or some champagne to toast it? It certainly is nice of you to be thinking about him at this time.

Good luck with your birth and congrats!

I know this is still a "tshirt" but I got my husband one that said "coach" on it and gave it to him in the hospital. The O in coach was a picture of a little baby. he loved it. I found it on the internet.

Find him a really cute book about "Daddy & Me" that he can look forward to reading to his little boy. Or a kids book that's about Dad's favorite hobby/pasttime. Or even a cute picture frame that says something about Daddy's little boy that he can take to work.

How about a digital picture keychain? Get some good pics of dad & son when he's born and get them put on for him to show off.

I really like the Willow Tree New Father figurine. https://www.greenearthstores.com/?p=pSingle&offset=5&...=

When we had our first child, I couldn't get my husband to agree on a name, so I bought letters for the name that I liked the best, spray painted them to match the nursery, and put the name and this New Father figurine right next to each other. The figurine totally sealed the deal. It's really cool...if you have a guy with some sensitivity to him.

Not sure but if you are thinking t-shirt, get something put on it, as a saying. But make it white and when they do the foot prints of the baby he can have them do it on the shirt at the same time. If you want to make it a 'surprise!' maybe wrap the shirt around some card board so it is stiff and talk to the nurses and they might be able to do it without him wearing it. I just don't know if it will ever be able to be washed?
That or I did pregnancy pictures?? Most guys aren't into that kind of thing, it would be more like a gift to yourself if you feel comfortable, then after the baby is born you can have his picture put up in the corner. I did it where I was looking down at my belly (shirt pulled up, pants tucked under belly) with my son in the top corner. It isn't something I'd hang in the livingroom but I love having it in the bedroom on my night stand.... I also had picture taken with daddy when I was pregnant, they also turned out nice.

Congates!!
