It's 11pm, and they just started in front of my apartment building which is LOUD! It's also on a regular city street, not a complex. Can they do this so late? I have to be up at 5AM for work, and my child can't sleep either >:( How would you feel?? I realize it's a holiday and all but the sun has been down for 2 hours! (meaning they could have done this earlier) I'm frustrated!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ha! I heard one guy outside yell "Paddy Wagon!" and it's been quiet since. Someone else must have called. YAY! BTW, my place still has the old windows and there is no buffer whatsoever, if someone is standing outside my apartment just talking, it's like they are IN my room! Anyway, glad the fireworks have stopped.. for now :)

Seriously it is once a year. I am not a night person and even I can stand it once a year.

Maybe they have to work tomorrow night so they wanted to spend some time with their kids tonight. Maybe you will be keeping them up tomorrow.

It's not even the 4th yet.... call the police and let the police deal with it.

Why do people do it before the fourth. They obviously don't care about the way there neighboors feel. We have fireworks be us too and it's ANNOYING. It's only 10 by us but if it keeps going we will and you should call the police.

Malia is right. Call the police about it. They won't know who called, so you won't have to deal with grumpy neighbors.

Put a big box fan near your bed and turn it on high. Seriously! It's amazing the noises those things can block out.

We have one in our room and one in the boys room and turn both of them on low every night. The only down side is that we have to bring one with us on vacation, because we're so used to sleeping with them on :-)

I just think that the 4th of July happens once a year, people are excited to celebrate, and the police have better things to do than deal with that. And we wonder why the crime rate is so high--police have to spend time dealing with minor annoyances rather than violent crimes and thefts!

Our city thinks it is a celebration ALL WEEK LONG! It appears to be legal here - never bothered me too much but I am a night person. In the future I would find out the laws regarding noise complaints/fireworks in residentials and go from there.

Sound machine & ear plugs are your friend!!

I don't get upset about things like that - it's not as if it's happening all night, every night. I think there are certain holidays/holiday weekends where you get a pass on sticking to the noise ordinances. I'd venture to say that the majority of people don't work on 4th of July.

Please don't be the guy who calls the cops & ruins the fun.

People here have been doing fireworks since last weekend. It is a pain in the rump, but it's that way every year. For me, worse than the fireworks is the neighbors dog who barks and freaks out if a leaf blows by, so you can imagine how bad it is with fireworks and she won't take him inside. It sounds like he's sitting in my living room barking his head off.

I have to work too and it is a pain, but thankfully the noise is pretty short lived, relatively speaking.

I am awakened at about 7am every single weekend morning with people using chain saws to cut wood. I live in the middle of nowhere. 7am? Seriously?

I've just come to the conclusion that other people are noisy and don't really think about anyone wanting to sleep in or having to get up early for work.

You can check out the noise ordinances in your city. As for tonight, I have no doubt people will revel with fireworks at least until 11 or midnight.

Hang in there!

This drives me crazy...we seem to get them in our neighborhood for the entire week of the 4th. It bothers me most because our houses are only about 15 feet apart and people still insist on setting them off in the middle of the street. Doesn't seem to matter that there is a perfectly good soccer field right behind the houses where nothing could possibly hit someone's home.... Yes,I think it is illegal, but no the police really don't seem to enforce it...

It is illegal in almost every town to shoot fireworks due to massive fires that can break out with the tiniest spark. It might even be your home that catches of fire first. Please call the police each and every time they bring them out. Eventually they will get caught.

People can die in fires. The sparks can get trapped on the shingles or in a bit of dead grass and smolder for some time then just break out in a serious blaze. By that time it has spread and there is little hope of knowing about it until the roof collapses in on everyone. Fireworks are dangerous.

If someone is caught using fireworks in our town they can get up to a $2000 fine.

There are organized fireworks shows all around here.

Of course, you'll have some "break the rules" and those are the ones who end up setting fires, getting hurt, etc.

Yes, if I were you I would be upset too because it is putting your property at risk of damage as well as breaking a noise law.

Check you county laws. My county says that on week nights you have to stop fireworks by 11pm and 12pm on weekends. I have a neighbor who has been setting them off all day for about a month (what is the point when it is light out) They are still setting them off today even though we are under a burn ban, because my state has a stupid law that does not allow officials to prohibit the use of fireworks for the weeks surronding the 4th of July.
