We're in the process of looking for nursery furniture, and one option we are considering is Ikea. Has anyone used their cribs? I've never bought any furniture from Ikea before. I've seen good ratings for their cribs in Baby Bargains, but I'd love to hear some personal reviews. Thanks in advance!
My sister-in-law gave me their old IKEA crib when my daughter was born 5 months ago. The crib was 8 years old and got lots of use for about 4 years (they also used it as a toddler bed). The model is just their very basic plain white, and I LOVE IT. It is very sturdy and I love the simple, modern design. I really think IKEA is the way to go!
We bought one for my son b/c it converted to a toddler bed and we needed his old crib (which didn't convert) for his infant sister.
If I recall correctly, my husband grumbled a little when putting it together (their instructions are pictures only, no words) but it wasn't terrible to put together.
Pros: It is sturdy (my son puts it to the test! plus, all 4 of us sit on it every night for story time and it shows no signs that we're stressing it out)and space saving. Of course the fact that it converts to a toddler bed (smaller than a twin bed) was a big plus for us. finally, it was a great price; I think we payed about $100 for the crib and $20-30 for the mattress.
Cons: The mattress is not like a regular crib mattress, at least the one that came with the crib we bought isn't. It's not waterproof so I would definitely buy a cover to go over it. Also, the one we bought does not have the option to raise/lower the mattress like most other cribs. It is very low to the ground which would have made it a real pain in my back to use with an infant that could not stand up to be picked up.

If you buy one, when you convert it to a toddler bed and then buy a pillow, quilt, and a set that has the duvet cover, sheet, & pillow cover in it, buy two of the sets so when one pillow case is in the wash you still have one to put on it! I regret not doing that and since the nearest IKEA is an hour away, it's been over a year and a half and I haven't gotten back out there to buy another one!
I had a big, fancy, expensive crib for my first son. My twins, however, are in Ikea cribs. They were very easy to put together. You can put the mattress at two heights. I'd recommend just putting it at the lowest setting so you don't have to mess around with adjusting it when the baby gets a bit older. I didn't have this issue as I had the twins in my sons old crib together until they started pulling themselves up to standing. With my crib there is no rail that moves up and down (so no moving parts to break). You can use any standard sized crib mattress. I don't see any reason to NOT get an Ikea crib. All cribs have to meet safety standards.
My daughter sent me a picture of this crib. What a cheap looking crib. I'm sure it meets the minimum safety standard BUT really I am worried about my future granddaughters safety.
I bought their cribs for my twins and they were great - a great price, easy to put up and the kids never climbed out of them. I sold them for 80%of what I paid for them at a Mom to mom sale too!!
I didn't get their crib, but I got their toddler bed and don't love it. It has a rail on the side of it and the foamy mattress which sinks in lower than the bed frame and the first several months we had it, my daughter kept hitting her head on every side of the bed, hard to explain until you look at their toddler beds, then hopefully you'll understand.
