Hi, I have been a stay-at-home mom and want to get back into the work force. How do I prepare myself for office work after having so many years out of it and with no good, recent references, except for character references? I've kept practising my typing and have learned some basic things about Microsoft Office.

What can I do next?

i hear what you are saying girl. my mom was like you. she stayed at home with us until we were well into jr high and then had to struggle into the workforce again. what if i could offer you a way to bring in an income and stay at home?have you ever considered starting a stay at home business? i have stumbled onto a really great one. there is no sales, or inventory to keep, no parties to throw or magazines to pass out. you can do it full time or part time and basically make as much money as the effort you want to put into it. if you are interested in some more information please visit my website at www.formyrugrats.com. i would love to share this amazing opportunity with you!!! again, most of these stay at home things like avon, or mary kay, you have to do alot of work for a little compensation, and you rarely get anywhere. that is not so with the MOM Team. I would love to talk with you about this.

Hey S., I am 25 years old and I have a B.S. in Business and a minor in Biology and I am also a stay at home mom. I worried about how would I go back to work after staying home with my children for a few years. Well I don't have to worry at all because I found Arbonne International. It is an incredible home based business that allows you to make unlimited money and drive a white mercedes that the company pays for. There is no selling involvoed, it is network marketing. If you want more info I can meet for coffee and explain the presentation in about 30 minutes. Check it out at www.arbonne.com

I talked to my mom about this and she tells me that when she got back into the working field that she took the time to make sure she understood Word, Excel (Excel for dummies is good), and Outlook. She called up a few of her old bosses and asked if she could get a professional references. She also tells me that she started out part time and used a Temp-Agency. If you have something like Express Temporary Agency, that is the way to go. This way you can get some current experience without having to worry about getting fired for not knowing all the new computer stuff. Im a secretary and I don't even know all the new stuff. Take your time and be patient.

S.,
I used to hire temps for three different agencies (I had to take their names out due to my side note) I have worked for others such as The Employment Ladies. Get your typing speed back up, at yahoo games they have a free download game called typer-shark, that helped me. Contact a reputable agency and dress for the job you want, no blue jeans unless you want manual labor! They will test you and tell you what they have available. Do not be afraid of one day or one week assignments (short-term), since you have not receiving a paycheck from a company (we all know you have been working hard!) they may be trying to test you and your willingness to go to work. This will also give the temp agencies refrences for you. Make sure you have a professional resume and that it matches any applications you fill out. There are no laws that say you can not register with more than one company. I wish you all the best! Contact me if I can be of any help, unfortunately I do not have any contacts in the TX area and I have been out of the biz for a few months now. God Bless you and your family!
Side note- I do not know about TX, but I will tell you that in the agencies that I worked for, taking a "light industrial" assignment, kind of barred you from clerical/administrative assignments. We always had more LID than clerical, and they do usually pay better, but there was not alot of cross-over. Pease do not go to the crummy agencies unless you are really pressed for cash, that too is a turn-off. If you have the time to build a rep with a solid agency, I think it will workout with you getting a better permanent job in the end.

You might want to try something working from home. I want to give you a free energy product, a free international business, and a free automatic website.

Temp agencies are a great way to go. Many of them have free training to brush up on any programs you have forgotten or want to learn new. You may have to start in some really crummy ones for a little while, but the best part is that they are just for a little while. You build up great references through those to get the better jobs. The ones that place into industrial / refinery type places usually pay better if you can handle that type of environment. And often, they will request you back, which increases your rating and pay scale!!!!
