Just checking to see if anyone knows of a good German Shepherd breeder. We are looking for a wonderful pet, but just don't know where to get one. If anyone knows of anyone who breeds or where you got yours it would be a big help. Thanks so much!

Hi L.,

We got our German from a breeder in Princeton, TX (just east of McKinney). Her website is below. She lives and breathes German Sheperds. She breeds them, trains them and shows them. She's a little hard core and dry personality but seems very knowledgable and professional. Her name is Mellodee. You can go to her site and view some of the pups that may be available. Our dog is now 5 years old and so far has been in perfect health.

German shephers are WONDERFUL dogs! I do not know why you would not recomend them except that you definitely need to make sure you can handle taht type of dog and that they definitely get training so they do not walk all over you . Other than that they are wonderful dogs. My parents raised shepherds while I was growing up, we had them before I was born, they were around when my brother and I were infants and protected us, they are excelent with children. There is always the exception to the rule, but for the most part the are loving, protecting dogs. Females are the best for families, not too over protective as sometimes the males can be. We had one male taht would not let anyone in the hosue but family, was a real pain with friends and such. Somthing to think about.

I would definitely consider rescuing: http://ntxgsdrescue.org/

If you do pursue the breeder route, be sure to do exhaustive research to find a REPUTABLE breeder. There are tons of backyard breeders and puppy mills out there, which you do not want to support.

Are you really sure you want a German Shepherd? I don't recommend them to many people. But, if you are 100% positive, let me know and I will get you information about where to get one.

How about a german sheperd rescue group? I know there is one in Plano that you could contact. I grew up with this kind of dogs and love them too!
