We are seriously considering Luke or Lucas/Lukas for a boys name. We would name his Lucas or Lukas. My husband likes one spelling and I like the other. The thought of one of us is if we call him Luke, Lukas would be nice especially for spelling for him. The other one things that Lucas is a more common spelling. Ex. He is never going to find something personalized in a store with the Lukas spelling.

Middle names for Lukas/Lucas
Edward
Michael
Matthew
(or any other suggestions).

Girl names Probably Grace.
Middle name options-
Katherine
Elizabeth
Lauren
Ava
Caroline
or any other suggestions).

I already have two boys Donovan and Benjamin (Ben). I thought about trying to find a boys name that ended in a "N" or three sylables but none jump out at us.

What can I do next?

I wouldn't worry about not finding anything in a personalized store with a particular name - today, just about ANYTHING can be personalized. It's a huge business - embroidery, carvings, etc. have come a long way in customizations.

No matter on the spelling they are both great names. Like another poster said you can always order things specially!

I ALMOST made the mistake of my sons name until I was in the middle of making his birth certificate at the hosptial and the nurse asked me his name. I said Brach she then asked me his middle name and I said Lee....she busted out laughing and I asked what was so funny... she couldnt answer at first so I started to cry- dang hormones! Finally after she wiped away her tears also she said do you realize what your sons name will be put together. I said yeah Brach Lee... then said OH CHIT- Brocolli ! Changed it to Terrence after my father last second! lol

Just make sure whatever name you chose it all goes together, and that there can not be too many plays on words.

As for the girls name... I love Grace! Absolutely beautiful!

Many blessings to you and yours and your new one who is almost here!

Hi there-

I too like Grace Katherine. Too funny! :)

As for the boys name, I have heard a lot of feedback (when I was pregnant) about unique spellings of names that weren't so flattering. It was my experience that many people thought unique spellings were pretentious and ridiculous. Your explanation of naming him Lukas with a "K" makes sense though and so I can see why you would do that.

I personally chose unique names (Gamble Kevin for my son and Random Jolie for my daughter). While I don't have to worry about people thinking that the spellings are crazy, I do get some feedback about the crazy names that I chose. ;) I guess you never win! :)

Anyway, I personally like the idea that I won't find their names in personalization places. I don't want to have to be subjected to buying everything in sight because it has their names on it. If they want somet things personalized, we can have them made and not be subjected to impulse buys. :)

Anyway, good luck with #3. Hope this helps.
N.

Ava is shockingly popular all of a sudden. It might be the next Madison, so just be aware. (I think it's lovely, but as a Jennifer who always was one of 3 or 4 Jennifers, I would have preferred to have a name everyone else didn't also have!) (EDIT - I just looked at your post and see it's a middle name so never mind!)

Lukas is spelled that way in some European countries, I believe, so it's not like you just made it up. I wouldn't worry about getting personalized pencils or whatever - I'm sure you can order them online with whatever you want on them.

I stumbled across this post just now....I just wanted to comment because it was written 3 days after my Lukas was born. :-) I see you had a girl, but Lukas is a great name and my son wears it well!

You have gotten lots of good input from the other posters. I just wanted to throw out there that I really love my husband's "n" ending name: Wilson.

Best of luck.

Hi G.,

Love the name game :)I am not big on the boys names being spelled different, I like 'em plain. (of course, just my opinion)

So...I like all the names you chose, but my favorites are:
Lucas Matthew & Grace Katherine.

Hi G.,
I wouldn't worry too much about them not being able to find things personalized. With the age of the internet and online ordering, you can get just about any spelling you want.

Both of my boys have pretty unique names and they probably won't ever find anything in a store with their names on it. But we wanted their names to be unique. Having said that, I do like Lukas.

I also like Grace Katherine.

Congratulations on #3!

G.,

my two daughters names are Brittney (surprisingly not a common spelling either) and Alexi (can find tons of Alexis stuff... no Alexi though) - I cannot find anything with their names on them (personalized). But I wouldn't have done anything differently :)

I like Lukas, and I like Grace Katherine :)

just my two cents :) congrats on #3!

Name your child whatever you like.....I have 2 daughters ones name is Ryann (prononuced Ryan) and the other is Shannon...I wouldnt change the names for anything. We will never find anything for Ryann that is all ready personalized but she does have some things that people bought her that we ordered.....we only have found one thing at the store with the name Shannon on it.

I understand completely about the name spelling issue. My name wasn't so out there when I was younger and had a problem finding personalized stuff, pens magnets ect. but that really doesn't matter nowadays. I like the name Lucas spelled either way. I could have been different and spelled Justin, Justyn, but decided not to, I didn't want to have to correct everyones spelling of it and didn't want him to have a problem with it later on in school (just what I decided everyone is different and we should be). On the girls names, Grace Katherine seems to flow better and it is a beautiful name. Good luck and congratulations!

I think all of your name ideas are nice. I personally lean towards spelling names with the most common spelling- otherwise your son will spend his entire life correcting people on how to spell it. I know Lukas is more common is other countries/ethnic group, but here I think Lucas will probably be what most people write. Congrats!

Nathan can be called Nate :) Christian, Jackson (jack is a great name!). I like Lucas! Also Henry is a strong and honest name.
I love Grace Elizabeth:)

Try not to get stuck on a name. When the baby is born you will know. My husband and I liked three names for our daughter and a few days before she was born he had a dream that her name was Olivia. We named her Olivia Christine! We call her Livvy though and when she's older and cool she can go by Liv! Good Luck!

As far as spelling goes...my husband and I usually prefer the 'creative' way to spell names. Both of my kids have unique spelling, and will never find personalized things in the store. But this doesn't bother me at all. As for him learning to spell his name, it shouldn't be a problem either way. And I agree with the other post...Grace Katherine does flow together nicely!

I think the names are great! Like another M. said, don't worry about the personalized items, you will find just about everything these days.

As for the girls names, Grace is a beautiful name. I love the the name Caroline (my grandma). If you name her Grace Caroline you can tell her that you named her after 2 princesses! :-)

Good luck with your decision. All the names are great.

In response to your consideration of a boy's name ending in "N", Logan is always nice and not extremely common, but still not unheard of. =) A wonderful baby name book is the Baby Name Wizard. I searched high and low for good baby names and this book was wonderful. It even has suggestions for your new baby when you already have other children. It's really great and not as overwhelming as some of the other books that just list name after name. Good luck with your search!

G., congrats on your new baby. I prefer Lucas b/c of the spelling issue. To me, finding personalized items isn't that big of a deal, but Lukas would probably be misspelled during his entire childhood by various teachers, friends, etc., and I personally would get annoyed w/ it after a while. I like it w/ any of your middle name choices.
I think Grace Elizabeth is so pretty!
Here are some different boys' names ending in "N" that I have heard:
Caden
Braeden
Declan
Finton

Good luck!

Love the name Luke...why not just name him Luke, instead of the more formal Lucas or Lukas? Most likely, no one will call him by his formal name, and Luke is so much cuter.

For a girl, love Grace. Go with Ava for the middle name.

Who cares if he never finds anything personalized with his name on it at stores! I consider that a good thing. I can never find my daughter's name (Isabel) and I never had stickers with my name (R.) on them and I survived!!

That said, I love Lucas or Lukas. Both are lovely and not made up which is the best thing you can do for your kid!

All of your names a nice.
