I don't think you should be worried yet. Just keep working with her, make sure she gets plenty of tummy time and other exercise to help her get stronger. When she's on her back try putting a toy just out of her reach to her side and encourage her to get it. Every baby develops at their own pace.

I agree that children develop at their own pace. Growth spurts are a norm, and babies love to hit multiple milestones in waves (sometimes even receding waves). Sometimes taking a step back before moving two or three steps forward.
Let your instincts guide you. If you ever get a chance to meet a mom with a child with special needs, she will always say she was the first to know something wasn't right. If that inner voice tells you to get it looked at, go to your doctor/pediatrician and have things checked out. At the very LEAST they should refer you to a local baby wellness center (such as easter seals) who can do a full development check just for peace of mind. If a doctor shrugs you off as just a nervous mother, fire them immediately. Any doctor not willing to act on a mother's concern about their child, assumes to know the child more than anyone else including you. (there are all kinds of birth to 3 programs that are free just for parents and your doctor should know them.)
I'm not trying to spook anyone, but I would hate for anyone to go through what I went through.

What other things is your daughter doing? maybe rolling over is just to boring for her and she is just jumping right to other things My daughter only crawled for a month because she wanted to get up and go and thats what she did and hasn't stopped since
check out other milestones she should be doing and if she is not you should go talk to her doctor.

Maybe. Is it possible she turns over when you're not looking, or at least in her sleep? Is she meeting her other milestones? Does she roll okay the other direction? Did she just skip that step? You should definately tell your pediatrician. Rolling over is 3-7mo developmental milestone... not being able to accomplish milestones like these can be a big indication for an underlying problem. I have seen some little ones who are really chubby and have some trouble with rolling and some who just don't have an interest, but they do meet their other milestones (holding own head, sitting up without assisstance, etc). Your doc will be able to assess the difference, but definately look into it.

Hi A.....make sure that she is getting plenty of "tummy time". Anymore with infants sleeping on their backs their abdominal muscles do not get the strengthening that it takes to "roll over". 20 mins 3 to 4 times a day of tummy time, when she's awake might give her some strengthening time for her muscles to develope. Hope it helps!!! B., Illinois

I want to second everyone else who has posted and say that every child develops differently. My first son didn't roll over until both our Parents as Teachers rep and our pediatrician told us we needed to work on rolling. (That was at 8 or 9 months, I think.) It turns out that we just couldn't stand to let him struggle for anything and so he didn't have any motivation to roll. (We handed him everything he wanted.) I think that happens a lot with first children- parents are so involved in everything, that they tend to do too much for the baby/child. Don't worry about it. Practice rolling her yourself a few times a day (make it a game), give her lots of tummy time, and start placing toys just a little out of her reach. She'll roll when she's ready.

Remember- the guides to development are just averages (that means most children hit that milestone earlier or later than the milestone says.) There is so much growth, especially of the brain, before children reach the age of three that each child is wildly different from the next. You pediatrician knows the warning signs, if she isn't worried, you don't need to be.

My friends son, just turned 8 months and turned over the week before . Last Tuesday , he started sitting up. I wouldn't worry to much. If she is not in a month or so, I would check with the Dr. . But, kids develope at their own pace.

Nope. 7 months is the average for back to belly. So, some do it at 5 months, others not 'til 9 months. I think it also depends on how much they actually want to get on their tummy. My daughter wasn't in any hurry to roll onto her tummy either even though I tried to encourage tummy time--I started putting her down on her tummy every time I laid her down, but that still didn't motivate her to want to roll onto her stomach. She started rolling over onto her stomach all the time just recently when she realized she could push up into sitting from her stomach & when she was almost ready to start crawling.

My daughter is almost 9mos. and she started rolling around last month. I was kinda worried too because my cousins baby is 2 weeks older than her and she started rolling over in june i think and doing all kinds of things and mine well she i guess is just lazy. Now she is crawling and getting into everything. Be patient all kids are different...WIC told me 2 months ago she should be talking some words but she hasnt yet. All kids are diff. just talk to your doctor if it is bothering you bad later on and see what they say.

don't sweat it...as long as she is reaching her other milestones...and she receives opportunities to play on the floor with you she will pick it up...she should be at least rolling from her belly to her back...and starting to learn sitting up...but some babies don't have much interest in the rolling...neither one of mine cared for it much at all and they turned out fine...keep in mind too that some focus on one thing at a time...my daughter did nothing but one skill at a time...for example when she learned to sit up she refused to roll or play on her stomach for over a week...it was the same when she learned to say dada...she literally layed on her back kicking her arms and legs repeated dada for a solid week...but she wouldn't roll or sit...babies have so much of their own personality...also if she has been sick at all that can slow the progress as well...we don't feel like learning or even working on anything new if we don't feel good either...if you are still concerned call her pediatrician...that's what they r there for! good luck

Hi there... My son was born March 26 (also seven mos) and is just now rolling. He hasn't gone from back to stomach without assistance yet because he just can't get over that shoulder, but he goes from tummy to back just fine. I haven't done tummy time as much as I should have, but they just don't like to be on their tummies as they once did. I'm sure she is fine. If you're interested in encouraging her, put something of interest just out of her reach so she at least starts looking to the side(s) she wants to get to.

My son is 6 1/2 months and just started rolling from back to tummy and still doesn't roll from tummy to back, which is backwards. He is just starting to sit for a second or two. If your doctor is not worried and there are no other problems I would just keep encouraging tummy time and supported sitting time. Rolling over is hard work! She'll get it!
