Hey fellow moms. I have a son that just turned 1 year 2 days ago. But for the past 24 hours he has been throwing up and hasn't been intrested in food. Any advice on what it may be? We have an appointment tomorrow, but who would know what is going on better than other moms

What can I do next?

All I can say is to give lots of fluids. The dr may not be able to pinpoint what is wrong but fluids are important no matter what. As for 2nd babies, I just had my second child (my kids are 2 years apart). It is tough now because my 2-year-old still needs so much of my attention, but I know in just a couple of years they will be great playmates. We are new to Chicago and don't know anyone either - where are you located? N.

D. - Sounds like a type of flu my son, husband and I just had two weeks ago...lots of throwing up for the first day and then fine after that...just keep giving him any type of clear liquids he will drink...pedilite...is great if your baby will drink it. Jello is good too...any type of clear juice. Good luck...it seemed to pass as quickly as it came...hopefully it will be the same for you...hang in there and hope you don't get it. :-)

It sounds like stomach flu. There are many, many cases of it going around. A few days of vomitting&/or diaherraseem to be the symptoms. Both my husband & 1 1/2 year old had it, as well as many students & staff where I teach.
You need to be concerned about dehydration, eating will come later!
A call to the doctor can't hurt.

I agree. It's probably rotovirus. This is a common virus. I thought I heard now though that there is a vaccine for it? Your son may be too old for the vaccine but inquire about it at your next appt. I have a 21 month old and am 4 months pregnant with my 2nd child and I intend on trying to get it for my 2nd child. There isn't much you can do as far as treatment for it. Just make sure your son gets as much fluid as possible. If he can't keep anything down I would start with small medicine droppers of like 1tsb full of water or pedialyte and see if he can hold down that much. If you get him to hold down that much, keep at it with the medicine dropper every half hour or so. I get paranoid about dehydration! As for your question about timing siblings.....I think your going to get varying answers. I think this all depends on you and your family. My husband and I plan on only having 2 children and we wanted them close in age in the hopes that they'd have a close relationship. I have no siblings and my husband has a brother who is 5 years younger and he was never close with him because of the age difference. On the flip side, having kids close in age means two in diapers, two in high shoool and 2 in college at the same time. I am a bit worried about all of that as well! I think whenever you have your kids, and however far apart in age they are, that it all works out in the end. Good luck!

HI D.,
First of all he should get enough liquit. pedicare is a good source. he might have stomach flue so mash potato, mach carrots no oil, no salt will help him to keep the food down.

D.,
I have two girls, one is almost four and theo ther is two.
The two years old was throwing up last week, even water, I called their doctor and she just needed pedialite and liquids for one day and rest of course.
She had a stomach flu, which by the way is contagious, so now my husband has it.
My oldest had it when she was 16 months old.
You may just want to google it, I did it last week and it helped a lot.
Good luck!

Most likely, the flu. Give him Pedilite (sp?) and water or juice. Lots of fluids. He will dehydrate quickly. Good Luck Momma!

hi my name is A. and i have two children my daughter will be 4 on the 31st and my son is 1 and a half. there is a flu going around both of my children had it but it isnt your typical flu because my son got the flu shot this year and a week after he got the shot he got this sickness. he was sick for a couple days as well. my daughter only had it for like 12 hours by 9pm that night she was back to her old self. childrens hospital in milwaukee posted a warning about a sickness that was going around that was a lot like the flu but not the flu.
the best advice i can give is try to push the liquids its very important to keep him hydrated until you see the doctor and then they will give you more tips on what to do.
Hope this helps and your little one feels better soon.
A.

It could be Rotovirus I bet that I don't know if you know much about rotovirus but it is very common with little kids the only thing with that he would of had to get it from someone but I do not know a whole lot about it. My daughter got it when she was about his age and was throwing up through the night it was awful she was lagarthic, did not want to play, and had a fever. Well good luck I hope it is nothing serious.
