Hi Moms!
I am "musically challenged" and was wondering if some of you moms could help me with ideas for my daughter's boyfriend for Christmas. He is a music lover and he is in his late 20's. Any ideas? I really do not want to do the gift card thing. God bless and thank you.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Gosh, I don't know what to say except THANK YOU, Moms! You really gave me good ideas for thought. I have decided to go with a gift certificate to a store called Great Neck Guitars here in Wichita Falls. My daughter tells me he has everything, so this way, he can go pick out something he would enjoy. Thank you for taking the TIME to help me. God bless you and Merry Christmas,
M.

If there is a class/lessons he's taking (piano, guitar, voice, etc), offer to pay for a month or a semester. If he's saving up for an instrument, give him some money to go towards it. If it's already on lay-a-way, go pay on it. Sheet music or some accessory to his instrument would be great too. Good Luck.

My Dad is in his sixties and a big music lover. Band t-shirts have been some of his favorite gifts...and ones he actually uses. Just find out his favorite artist. gifts.com has a section of gifts intended for music lovers. If he doesn't already have one, an mp3 may be appreciated. OR an upgrade to a nicer set of head phones for a player he may already have.

I agree with SB's recommendations.
My husband is a HUGE music fan. I can't buy him CD's or records because once a new album is out he grabs it up!
I get him music T-shirts a lot, music storage (he buys a lot, we easily have over 1000 CD's and over 100 records!).
My husband really likes listening to music on headphones, says you can hear all the little details better, so a nice set of headphones is a great idea. They vary in prices. Some are rather expensive, the set my husband wants is around $300. I've seen some nice ones for $20-$50.

This article features budget headphones from $24 to high-performance models up to $350.

It depends on what kind of music he likes... does he play music? If so, what instrument?

ITunes is the way to go. He can get anything and you are not duplicating something in his collection.

If he plays a guitar, a tuner would be something he may not have and can be bought for as little as $20-25 at a music store.

Do you know hat kind of music he is into? I am a music lover myself! It's hard to buy music for someone! I would either ask my daughter for suggestions or maybe an iTunes gift card. If he is into indie music and you are in Dallas, I would suggest you go to a record store called "Good Records". It's off of Greenville Ave in Dallas and the people who work there know everything about music! They are the ultimate music lovers there and can help you pick out something unique for him! Example: a few years ago, I got dumped, and I went in looking for musi that fit that situation and some guy picked out about five cd's that helped me feel empowered and giddy with new and good music! I still love every band and musician he introduced me too!

If you are looking for specific recommendations, send me a message and we can talk specifics!

Good luck!

I just saw that peopl suggested good headphones.... That's a GREAT idea! Every music "snob" prefers their music through headphones!!!

Great music and pretty new. People in Planes is awesome! Its hip and new. Kind of Alternative. Also if he's a fan of Interpol the lead singer has a solo album - Julian Plenti - its fabulous.

If he is a christian, I would go to a christiam book store to the music dept. and ask them the favorite groups for his age. They are usually really good at that and very helpful. Good luck.

If he has an ipod. Get an itunes gift card. It's so hard to buy someone music. You simply don't know when they already have. I love when my friends give me the itunes gift cards!!!

Maybe something from the Hard Rock Cafe? My son loves music, and he loves getting gifts from there (t-shirts, guitar pins, guitar picks - he plays the guitar).

Unless you know exactly what kind of music he likes or a specific person or group, you'll be forced into the iTunes/Best Buy/favorite music store gift card route. I know you said you would like to avoid gift cards, but that is the best way to go since you might not know exactly what he already has in his collection as someone else mentioned. Now for a different gift from the norm, if he doesn't have a musical instrument but is interested in trying to play guitar for example or would like to brush up his playing skills or increase his music ability, you might want to purchase a session of music lessons. If he's already a musician and takes offense, tell him some of the best musicians around the world have taken lessons well into their careers. Like the drummer and bass player of the rock band U2 didn't take serious music lessons until the late 1990's which was 20 years after they started the band and many Grammys later.
