Hi -

Is there a website for moms of local kids activities, day cares etc? We are moving to the area in two weeks and I could use all the advice I could get! Never even visited Portland before! I will need tips/recommendations for everything - especially clean, safe daycares for my 4 year old and 8 month old. Thank you!

What can I do next?

Hello!

I really suggest joining a moms group. I joined LO moms (Lake Oswego is the next town over from Tigard) and it was a WEALTH of information. The ladies are not all from LO some from Tigard, West Linn, Tualatin etc. I highly encourage you to do this. lomoms.com.

Good luck with your move!

Hi D.,

I am a local childcare coordinator in the Portland area and the owner of the Portland Preschool Directory. My directory lists mostly preschools, but some preschool / daycares are listed as well.

As a local childcare coordinator, I work with the largest US au pair agency helping families who are looking for live-in childcare in their own homes. Our au pairs are experienced with children, including infants, have excellent training, have passed background checks, and are bilingual. In addition, the cost of hosting an au pair is less than $8 / hour!

Through Dec. 6th, you can apply for free and get $500 off. That means you can start matching with an au pair without a penny out of your pocket! If you need an au pair right away, we have au pairs that are available and in the country, ready to join your family.

You can check out my website, or feel free to call me at ###-###-#### for more information.

Best wishes to you and your family.

This is a late response, but for activities, check out the local libraries. Tigard Library is fantastic and has a ton of children's activities and story times.

The nearby recreation centers have indoor play areas, which are especially nice on our rainy days.

Try www.kidzlist.com for happenings around the Portland Metro area. We have a nearby Children's Museum, Zoo, Forestry Center (some of these can be free with a Cultural Pass that can be checked out at the libraries).

There is Moxie Moms and some coffee shops with play areas where you might meet other moms/kiddos.

Hope you are settling in okay and it makes for a busy holiday season for you. Good luck to you, I too am in Tigard with a 5 yr old girl and 3 yr old boy. Let me know if you need to have some adult company.

There are a couple of great cooperative preschools in the area. We really like Touchstone Preschool at 72nd and Hwy 217 in Tigard. It is a bit pricey, but a great, well-rounded program. They offer PE, Music, and Spanish on top of classroom time. My kids love it there and the teachers/staff are all very caring.

Don't know of any particular websites, but if you go online and and just type in what you are looking for I am sure you will find something. For example, daycares. That should be easy enough to find online. Activities....well there are quite a few things in the Tigard area. I haven't been to any of them because I live on the other side of town. Good luck!!
