Hi Mamas!

We are going to be moving from Arlington to Alexandria at the end of the month, and I am looking for a reputable (but reasonably priced) moving company. Any suggestions? Has anyone ever used Town & Country? Thanks!

We used Starving Students for our move from Arlington to Reston and we were pleased with them. Good luck with the move.

A., we used Gulliver's Movers (motto: Swift and Gentle Giants) - yes I was a sucker for the literary reference, and also for the fact that they moved Yo-Yo Ma's piano...

Our new house had just been painted and floors just redone, so my biggest concern was NO DAMAGE. They were great. Fast, efficient and careful.

We were doing a short distance move as you are. I moved most of our junk by car (clothes, small boxes), and let them move just the furniture and books. It was reasonable (as movers go), and they were very good. Best luck with the move -- always exciting, but such a project!

Hi -- We used All-Star movers for our move from DC to Vienna last year, and they were GREAT. Reasonably priced, arrived on time, finished early, and didn't break anything. We were really impressed. We found them through Washington Consumers Checkbook, which is a local non-profit that rates area service firms (www.checkbook.org). A few suggestions for your move: (1) get free estimates from a couple of movers so that you have a sense of the range; (2) buy movers' insurance just in case (it's really inexpensive); and (3) try to set up the baby's room first so that you don't miss any naps. Good luck!

Hello

When we moved we used two companies - to combine our two separate apartments. I was moving from Philly. I used a local company to bring my things here...huge mistake. they were horrible- scratched our floor and shipped furniture.

My husband used Gentle Giant - they were AMAZING. Love them.
They practically ran with our stuff up stairs... they were all young rugby or hockey players happy for work that let them get a work out. They were fast and so polite. They even help me decide where to put some of the heavier furniture by moving it carefully around for me. They were a joy.

Check out Gentle Giants.
