Moving Company Costs

I know this will vary greatly, but have you used a company to help you move from one place to another in the same city? If so, how much did it cost you and how many rooms were they moving? Who did you use? I'm just trying to figure out if this would be an option for us. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Look for off duty firemen, they usually have moving companies in towns/cities. I've used them in Dallas before.
We used local movers in San Antonio. Ask a realtor who they recommend locally, call and get quotes.
It depends on where you are going, how many bedrooms. It's usually a 2 hour min.

I would figure $800 to $1000. We have used movers many times from small apartments to our current house. In town, 3 towns over and across New England. Always seems to start at $1000 or more.

A friend of mine does moving. He is here in Houston. He moved my sister and she was very happy at the cost and the job. His company is A&D Moving, his name is Dwayne and his number is ###-###-####. Just let him know you got his number from Mamasource he will know who referred him.

I live a long ways from you so what things cost here are probably different, BUT I would suggest that you shop around and tell each place that you are shopping around. You might be surprised how competitive they will be :) When I moved to So MN from the Twin Cities (about 2.5 hrs away), I paid $1800 to move a 3 bedroom home of stuff including mileage. However, when my ex-husband moved down here (*sigh*), he had to get bids since his work paid for it, and his work only paid $500 more and they PACKED him too! I would tell them that you are taking bids for the move, have them come out and do the bid (maybe get three of them), meet them personally and get all the ins and outs of what exactly is included (like boxes, mileage, are the bonded/insured).

Good luck - moving stinks :)

We have used a moving company a couple of times, however we usually use them only to move the big stuff. We did the smaller stuff and the lighter boxes ourselves. I think both times it ran around $350. Locally they will charge you by the hour and I highly recommend you stay on top of them. We used Texas Discount Movers twice and I do recommend them although I would ask that the owner (can't remember his name) be on the job. He is very thorough and careful. The second time we used them we didn't get him and I don't think the guys they sent were as good as when he was on the job. He's very friendly too. =) They do have a website: texasdiscountmovers.com.

We live in Cypress and moved within the same neighborhood. We moved from a 1 story 2100 sq. ft. house that was pretty full to a 2 story close to 3200 sq. ft. house (old house was 3 bedroom, 2 bath, study, living room, dining room, kitchen). We used Tomball Movers and it cost us between $800-$1000. They did a great job.

answers from Corpus Christi on

My hubby is the GM of a moving company...and he said it goes by weight, miles and the number of cartons or boxes used to pack your items. I know for a fact you can save some of the cost by packing your items yourself. My hubby just got transferred here to Corpus Christi, Tx. from Killeen, Tx. which is by Ft. Hood..the milage is 250 miles, and it would probably have cost us $3500.00 for his company to do everything. We had 13,000 pounds to be moved, and I did all the packing and he had a friend who is the GM of another moving company move our stuff for us from one city to another. If not I would probably still be in Killeen, which I wouldn't mind at all..My kiddos and my grandbabies live there. I hope this helps you.. My hubby works for Coleman American which is part of Allied. He has also worked for Mayflower..Allied has several offices all over Texas.
