I am sure that this question has been asked before. Has anyone had any experience using member mark formula from Sam's Club? My daughter is 4 month old and is on emfamil with iron and has been doing well. But the cost the formula is expensive. I don't want to hurt her but changing her formula. The ingredients are the same. How would I go about introducing her to the new formula? I don't want to upset her stomach.

What can I do next?

According to my little sister, Consumer Reports did a study on baby formula a while back. So might want to try the consumer reports website and see if you can get any info from it without a membership.

As I remember from her the Sam's Club and Costco brands for both Similac and Enfamil are top notch. So I wouldn't worry about switching.

To make it easier on the tummy even though it is really very similar (if not the same! because sometimes the generic stuff is) you could make the bottles half and half for a a week, the 3/4 (new) to 1/4 (old) for a week, then full on new stuff the third week. Sometimes doing it that way makes it a little easier.

Good Luck!

I have a friend who is single and adopted a baby and her pedi told her that the reason why the brand formulas are so expensive is because they bid to get the government contracts for WIC/etc. He said the generics are the same if the ingredients are the same...so save yourself the money. Gererics also don't have to pay for advertising, although I have seen an add for Members Mark in the parenting mags. I used goodstarts and had luck buying in bulk on ebay and saved some major money.

Have you tried applying for WIC? They provide approximately 9 cans of formula for those who qualify and their income standards are higher than other government programs.

Hope this helps.

Hey there R.,

I am a dietitian and if the ingredients on the label of the Member's Mark matches the ones on Enfamil with iron---including the same amount of iron in the formula, which is usually listed below the Nutrition Facts in the box, then you are fine. Chances are Enfamil is making the "store brand" formula for Sam's Club and they are able to sell it at a lower price. Good research!
