Low Progesterone - HELP!

Just had my progesterone checked as we are having trouble trying to conceive. Progesterone is on the low side. Ob/GYN won't give me a script for Clomid or progesterone - told me to go get a cosult with a infertility clinic. I've made an appointment with another OB/GYN to get a second opinion. Has anyone had a similar experience?

What can I do next?

I, too, had low progesterone. After a year of no luck, my OB prescrobed Clomid. I was pregnant one month later. Good luck to you.

I would seek out another Dr. After a year of trying my doctor prescribed Clomid and it worked after one treatment. Sure seems like that would be easier than going to get a bunch of expensive tests done.
By the way I love my doctor and his practice. His name is Dr. Trivedi and he works out of St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. His number is ###-###-####.
Good luck

I would definitely go to another OB...there are progesterone pills and suppositories that can help increase your level. I have a friend who was told by two different infertility clincs that she had to do IVF to conceive her second child. She didn't want to do it. Went to a third doctor who gave her progesterone pills and she conceived that month.

My advice...if you don't agree with what a dr tells you or don't feel like they're on your side...move on.

I was like Tara P. Used them for 3 mos. But no clomid. Some OBs believe this works, some don't--even docs within a practice can have differing opinions...ask!

I have both the natural side and prescription side for this issue. I was able to conceive, but I was cramping so much that my body was working on a miscarriage at less than 4 weeks. My P was at 7 and should have been 25. The doctor put me on P suppositories for the rest of the first trimester as 3 days off and I was having HORRIBLE cramps again. But once the placenta kicked in, I was fine.

Fast forward through the pregnancy I figured out that I had such high estrogen that my P just could not balance it out. Since I felt SO wonderful prego, my midwife and I decided to have me take bio-identical P after my dd was born. So 2 days after, I started the bio-id P in pill form and never got PPD and stayed balanced out. After I ran out of insurance I started using the P cream by Emerita from Fruitful Yield or any health food place. I used this one since it was the only one without anything extra like herbs or stuff and I was nursing and didn't want to pass those on. That worked as well and I didn't need a prescription. If you have coverage for compounding meds, the pills worked better it seemed, but the cream is a fine way to start. I used it for about 3 yrs until my body more balanced out on its own.

Feel free to contact me if you want more info.

Check out Dr. Lee http://www.johnleemd.com/ as he's got great info on this.

You dont mention your age or how long you've been trying to concieve. Low progesterone is very commen in "older' women. I had trouble concieving my second child at 41 and had 2 miscarriages - had 2 infertility docs tell me donar eggs were my only option and then went to see Dr Mary Wood Molo out of Rush who put me on prometrium (which is a progesterone) 3 days after I ovulated and low and behold I got pregnant. Low progesterone is an easy fix if thats the problem - I would also get a second opinion - at this point you dont really need to see an infertility doc depending of coarse on your age and how long you've been trying to get prg.

I had very low progesterone levels when I conceived my daughter. My doctor gave me progesterone suppositories to help increase my levels. Not sure if its the same with trying to conceive. They said my levels were "risky low" and they were worried about miscarriage. I used them for the entire first trimester and it worked for me~I now have a healthy 11mo old girl.
Based on the previous replies, I would honestly suggest checking with another OB/GYM!
Good luck!!

I had almost 0 progesterone after I miscarried. My Dr. put me on progesterone suppositories and very low 1/2 dose clomid and I conceived on the 2nd month trying. I had to keep up with the progesterone for the first trimester, but all went well and we now have a 22 month-old sweet girl!

I had 2 miscarraiges for what I believe was low progesterone...not actually diagnosed, but my own research and knowledge of my own body. My Dr. put me on Clomid & Progesterone suppositories and I did get pregnant and have a full term pregnancy. I recall reading that you have to take/use the progesterone while you are trying to conceive and through about 12 weeks, to ensure the placenta has taken over. I wish I could remember the books I read, but it has been several years!
Do some research and definitely get another opinion if you don't feel good about what your current Dr. says!
Wishing you all the best!
