Hi, I have a 16 mos. old daughter and we just found out yesterday that we are actually pregnant with twins!!! They don't run in either of our families so we were shocked. I would like to learn more about the development and how it occurs throughout the pregnancy (both the fetal development and my body). Does any one know of any sites I can look at? Plus I'll take any advice... I'm so happy but nervous too. Thanks.

So What Happened?

I just wanted to thank everyone for their advice and comments! We just went to the perinatologist and the babies look good so far. It looks like we are having 1 boy and 1 girl. I'm still aww stricken by it all. Once again... thank you.

Congratulations C.! I have 10 month old twin boys! They are the light of my life. It is great watching how differently they both are developing. (They are Fraternal) I read a great book when I was pregnant TWINS! Pregnancy, Birth and The First Year of Life. co arthored by Connie Agnew, M.D., Alan Klein, M.D., and Jill Ganon. I bought it at a Barnes and Noble shortly after I found out. It is a great book. Even though we had regular ultrasound and doctor visits I found it comforting to also read what was going on and how they and I eere changing. I also have a 6 yr old son. We had to make lots of adjustments! I cannot imagine having just one baby any more. I wish you all the luck in the world. you can e-mail me personally if you would like. ____@____.com
Good luck

Congrats on your news! You are just the opposite of me. I had twins and then found out I was pregnant again when they were only 7 mo old. My first pregnancy we found out that we were having twins and it didn't run in either of our families. I didn't do any research on it. When I had questions I would ask my doctor or nurses. Just take care of yourself and eat healthy. I had my babies two weeks early by choice. Myself as well as my twins did great throughout the pregnancy. We did an ultrasound every month to check on growth so I think that helped with any worries that I had. If you ever have any questions please feel free to email ____@____.com Luck and enjoy yourself.

Congratulations! I have 10 month old twin girls. I didn't do a ton of online research when I was pregnant, but I did like the Baby Center website. I got the book, "When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads, Revised Edition: Proven Guidelines for a Healthy Multiple Pregnancy by Barbara Luke and Tamara Eberlein". It is pretty good. Look at Amazon if you're interested, you can usually get a used copy pretty cheap. I did like this book, but I don't see how anyone could eat as much as they reccomend!

My advice is just to take it easy and talk to your doctor about issues, concerns. You'll probably know what's good for you. We also had an ultrasound every month, so we were really able to keep up on their progress, which did help ease fears. I worked the entire pregnancy and was enduced at 38 1/2 weeks. My twins weighed 6lbs 2oz each. A twin pregnancy is higher risk, but hopefully you'll sail right through like I did. For me anyway, the first 2-3 months after they were born were tough, but it has gotten so much easier. They are a lot of fun right now!

Good Luck! Let me know if you have any questions for me.

Congratulations!!! What a shock! I am sure that you must already be an excellent mother, since God has now given you twins to enjoy as well. Not sure about websites - looks like someone below has named a few good ones. Check out the library, they have a few good books on developing twins.
Also, the advice i would give you is to hire a doula. Working with your Doctor and a Doula can make your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum period a lot more of a safe and enjoyable experience.
If you have any questions, just check out my website at www.ashleydoula.blogspot.com,
or feel free to email me, and I will get in touch with you.
What an exciting ride you are about to have!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am a twin myself! I have a twin brother 4 minutes older than me. My mom actually didn't know she was having twins until we were born, but she watched her weight and ate healthy and her delivery weight with us was less than with any of our single birth siblings. We weighed 5lb3oz and 5lb 7oz and were weren't premees. Here are some sites to check out:

The only book to get and the absolute best is Having Twins by Elizabeth Noble. As soon as you can go buy this book and read the chapter on nutrition. When you are pregnant with twins your nutritional needs are obviously greater and it is so important that you have enough protein...she'll recommend more than you can ever think you could eat. I used to buy protein powder from the health food store would start my day with a protein milkshake (with milk which is also protein) and so I started my day with great nutrition and never got too full.

I had a four year old and a two year old when my twins were born full term. My twin sons weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz & 8 lbs 13 oz.at birth. They were born naturally and were born on their due date. Everyone seems to think that having twins is a medical condtion. If you take care of yourself you can have a wonderful pregnancy and do not necessarily have to have your twins prematurely. But, I definately attribute a lot of what I learned to the above mentioned book...

Also, go to the La Leche League website. They have information about birthing and breastfeeding multiples. Good luck! So exciting for you. You will be blessed!

I just wanted to say congrats. I am a mother of twin 13 month old girls. They are truly a gift from god. I reccommend joining the mother of twins club. I am currently a member and it is great. I do not attend meetings...you don't have to but can...and love the message board they have. If I ask a question or have a concern I post it and usually get a response within a few hours. As for websites, I found the websites to be indecisive and had better luck asking mothers of twins.
CONGRATS!!!!

Please take this advice, and DO NOT do too much research on this...and just go with your doc on this one. Fontanels come in all sizes, if you are concerned, they will check, but almost all babies that would be considered to have problems associated with this have problems that would have been detected at birth. Like anything else medical on the internet, they give you worst case scenario, and that is not what you need to read when the case is most likely just the differences in babies. The CT scan will rule out any fears you have, just schedule it as soon as possible so you can get the good news and move on.
