Looking for Pediatrician - Saint Paul, MN

I am eight months pregnant and am looking for a pediatrician. I scheduled a meet and greet with a doctor at the Fairview Children's Clinic on University avenue, I waited 45 minutes in a packed waiting room and the doctor was so busy I wasn't able to meet with her. Has anyone had any positive experience with this clinic or am I overreacting to this uneasy feeling I'm having.I live In Saint Paul near 280 and University and Im looking for a nice doctor and staff. I'm not overly fussy about their distance from where I live, I'm just frustrated with trying to find a place where I can have a positive experience. Maybe I haven't given the place a chance yet but If anyone has a place they feel really good about recommending that would help me out so much.

What can I do next?

My daughter is 7 years old and I love our pediatrician although she's no where near St.Paul she's in Burnsville. But I just want to tell you we've NEVER waited 45min. in the waiting room the worst case scenerio is like 10-15min. I wouldn't have the patience to wait that long.

Definitely trust your gut. Check out a lot of places. A good doc match for one can be awful for another. That said =), I highly recommend checking out central pediatrics. they are now located on snelling and larpenture. We LOVE dr. jaeger, but all the docs there are really good. plus, their clinic has urgent care which is really nice for us to be able to keep the continuum of care in one place. they have a website www.centralpeds.com

I don't know if Coon Rapids is too far for you, but I LOVE my doctor. He's a family practitioner and is so nice. He takes the time to get to know you and your family, we all go to him. When my son broke his foot, he got him in right away, even though the scheduling staff said he was "booked solid" for a few days. His name is Dr. Nathan Norquist and he is at the Health Partners Clinic in Coon Rapids. He's great! And so are the nurses.

I am in Woodbury and go to Central Pediatrics and love it! Woodbury is probably too far for you but I did see someone posted the new location in St.Paul. If the St.Paul location is as good as Woodbury then I would highly recommend it. I love their after hours care (Priority Peds) especially because a lot of the time the kids don't get sick M-F from 8-5. When I have gone in to the Priority Peds clinic I have always been in and out of there within 1/2 hr - 1 hour with no appt.

We go to Pediatric and Young Adult Medicine in Saint Paul and have been very happy there. Their Saint Paul clinic is located right off of 35E by United Hospital but they have some other locations as well. All of the staff are very nice and they have always been very efficient when we've been there. As a new patient/parent they give you a nice binder with lots of information. You can also keep the sheets from your well-child visits in it. Also, the pediatricians all carry cell phones so you can call them directly with questions/concerns. Dr Plotnik is GREAT.

We use Dr. London at Aspen Medical Group - Bandana Square. I really like him and all of the other doctors we have seen there (and his Nurse Stacy is fantastic!) They are located on Energy Park Dr...near Larpenter? sorry I am bad with directions...I take 280 to Energy Park and go from there.

Good Luck and I hope you find someone you are comfortable with.

Hi J.-
Trust your gut response because it is your first motherly instinct showing already!! That being said.....
I love love love our pediatrician. His name is John Kelly. He is with the Healtheast Maplewood Clinic located very close to the maplewood mall. I like him because he NEVER makes me feel rushed. He always takes the time to answer all my questions (and I have a lot, I'm a nurse :) His advice is very evidenced/research based and goes into great detail with his explanations of misc kid topics. The clinic has Sat am hours and appts into the evening (6ish) on weekdays. The only downside is he only works 3 days a week...which so far has worked out for us ok. I have seen other physicians in the clinic also and have been very satisfied. Their waiting room is awesome too....large fish tank, play area for kids and never in my experience busy. So, there is one to start with! I think their number is ###-###-####. Look on www.healtheast.org for further info! Good luck with your search and your new baby! Jen

Hi there, our pediatrician is in Vadnais Heights, maybe too far but we see Kristin Heuerman and she is fantastic. Actually, the whole group is great especially in a pinch. They have awesome hours, I think I've gone in as late as 7pm and on Saturday too. The clinic is NE Pediatrics. I would say keep looking, we have never waited 45 minutes to get in. They are almost always on time and extremely thorough. Good luck!

Hi J.! Try Health Partner's Como Clinic off 280 and Larpenter. We had Dr. Theresa Kovarik....and she's awesome. We were also pleased with Dr. Laurel Cedarburg. Good luck!
