Hi Mamas!!!

I would like to know if any of you ladies have any recommendations for buying a portable DVD player. My 2yr old son has taken a liking to watching "Cars" so I would like to get a portable DVD player to keep him entertained when we are making road-trips. I don't want to leave it in the truck all the time as I would like him to be able to use it in the house. If you have any recommendations that can at least point me in the right direction I would appreciate it a bunch. I know my son will be more than thrilled the first time we take a trip to the grandparents and he gets to watch his favorite movie. Not to mention, I won't have a restless toddler!!

What can I do next?

These are pretty easy to find and you can find them fairly cheap. I would recommend looking on craigslist.com first.

Also be aware that the American Acad of Peds says that "Limiting young children’s exposure to television as a medium during formative years of brain development...may reduce children’s subsequent risk of developing ADHD." The study was done specifically on 1-3yr olds. Although they claimed the study inconclusive (as it's the first nation-wide and largest of it's kind), it basically linked TV viewing before age 3 to higher risk of attention problems at age 7.

Having a DVD player is a huge help! You can probably go to any technical place, call Walmart, I've heard they have carried them. I'm the grandma/nanny and have to take him with me when I grocery shop. You know how it is when you have alot to buy and the little guy gets bored! I just take the dvd, sit him down inside the buggy and get shopping. It is a little tricky though finding places to put the groceries =}. He also knows it's ok to watch it when I am fixing dinner. He has several now with his first favorite "Baby Einstein Baby Noah and then onto Pooh's Heffalump (my favorite) and is also, now into cars. enjoy

We bought the Audiovox one almost 3 years ago, & it's still is great. We love it. It's extremely versatile. It has a DVD player in it, can hook cable up to it (in home), has speakers, has wireless headphones, can hook video game systems up to it, & it can play cd's. We got it at Best Buy.

By the way, I think it is good for children to watch some educational videos...especially in the car when they need a distraction. I'm a teacher. I think it just depends on how much you let them watch.

I'm not sure which DVD player would be the best one...but I did see them fairly cheap at CompUSA since they are being bought off by another company.

LOL. I also have a 2 year old son in love with "movie car" as he calls it. We got him the Audiovox Kids 6.2" Portable Handheld DVD Player from Target. It is awesome. It is a single box shape, without the flip up screen which we really find convenient. It is small and light enough to fit in my diaper bag when we go inside places. It comes with straps to put it on the back of a car seat and a car power adaptor in the box. A lot of the players don't come with the car kit so you have to pay extra for it. This was all together for around $100. Hope that helps. I really love this one!
