Looking for a Good Preschool in Southwest Detroit

I want to send my three-year-old son to preschool two or three half days a week, starting this summer or next fall. I live in southwest Detroit and would prefer a school that is not too far away. But I want it to be a good place for him, so I am willing to drive a little. My husband works in Farmington Hills, so something along the Detroit-Farmington Hills route would be good.

What can I do next?

Hi R. -
I'm not sure if this fits the bill for you - depends on where your at in SW Detroit -- We have our daughter enrolled at Montessori Children's Center (Allen Park) in the Allen Road/Outer Drive area. The folks there are FANTASTIC!! I use to work in Southfield. I would hop on the Southfield Fwy and head up. I've since changed jobs and the school is way out out of my way but we wouldn't dream of changing - she loves it there! Give them a call soon as they have started their Summer enrollments ###-###-####.
Take care-

Sorry to respond so late...but I heard that Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn has a nice preschool program. I have been to the facility, its seems nice and clean (but that was almost seven years ago). My son, nephew and siblings attended the 'Kid's College Weekend Program' there almost seven years ago. Also, contact the Wayne County 4C Program...just google them in. They serve as a great tool and provide you with very useful tips/information.

Hi R.. I am new to Mamasource and I am excited about logging on and communicating in whatever way with other Moms about resources. I live on the Northwest side of Detroit and I have a 3yr. old son(turning 4 April 10) and 5yr old daughter. They are both at Our Lady of LaSalette in Berkley. They have a great pre-school program. My son is in the 3yr. old class 3 full days a week. We love it. Since it is an actual school, they have the entire lower floor of the school for the 3yr, 4yr., and kindergarten classes. they have gym class once a week where some pre-schools may only have an outdoor playscape for access. I know you are in Southwest Detroit, and that your husband works in Farmington, this may still be something to check into. Also, my girlfriend who lives in Farmington Hills sent her kids to Tutor Time. I don't know exactly which branch she sent him to but you may want to look into that as well. she was very pleased. It may take some research and a few trial and error visits but I'm sure you'll find the best fit for your child. Take care. M.

My son has been going to farmington community school at 9 mile and shiawasse. I don't know if that would be convenient but we have been very happy and impressed with their program. Good Luck
