Looking for a Good Allergy Doctor

My husband suffers badly from allergies throughout the year. He does not tolerate antihistamines very well at all and we use them only in desparation. Pignoginal has helped, but some days at work his nose just floods and cannot be stopped. Does anyone have a really good, down to earth allergist in the HEB/Grapevine/NRH/Southlake areas?
Thanks so much!

So What Happened?

Thanks everybody! I was really clueless. I believe we will start with those highly recommended Docs in Southlake. It is a bit more convenient with our busy lives, but I'm glad to have back up choices!

There is a technique called N.A.T.E. that some Chiropractors do. It sounds 'hokey' to me, but I have a close friend that is very down to earth, honest, and cautious as well...she had it done, and she said it really does work. It is worth an internet search.

Hi C.,
Texas Regional Asthma & Allergy in Southlake, Dr. Mayse is great very personable and listens to what you have going on. They're right near Southlake Town Square. I see Dr. Fawcett is mentioned below as well but I believe she specializes more in children. I have also been told Dr. Leon is great. Their website is www.traac.org

Hi C.,
I can relate!! I am highly allergic to 35 of the 40 inhalant allergens. I am on a desensitization program where I put drops under my tongue 5 days a week (like shots). The outcomes measure state that after 1-3 years on the program the allergies were gone (or significantly decreased) and that after 30 (yes I meant 30) years there was only a 15% return. I have been on it for a year and have not had one migraine which I was getting weekly prior to the program. The allergy clinic is out of Kaner Medical group off of 183 and Brown Trail in Bedford. The drops are expensive but covered under my insurance so I only pay a co-pay. Good luck!! Also, I just started a new allergy prescription which is brand new called XYZAL that is working well.

Dr. Jim Bob Haggerton, a chiropractor in Hurst has had great results with allergy patients. I've actually seen him cure allergies with his technique of adjustment. No cracking and popping. The first visit is free. He is in network for almost all insurance's. Give him a try, I think you'll be suprised at how well it works! Oh! His website is family-wellness.com

We see Dr. R. Tanna, he has an office in Fort Worth and then there is another office in Bedford or Hurst, I'm thinking. I'm not sure where exactly the other office is. I would call and see where their other office is. His office number is ###-###-####. We see him in the Fort Worth office, however a long time ago I went to the other office for 1 visit. I'm sorry I don't remember where the other office location is.

He is excellent, our foster kids and our family all use him. He has been ranked as "Top Dr. in Fort Worth" area several times and has that on his walls in the lobby area. His office in Fort Worth is great, they are kid friendly, with books for kids and videos/DVD's for kids in the patient rooms. In the lobby there is a TV for kids and a TV for adults.
He's is the only Allergy Dr. in my whole life of having allergies that will call you at home. He makes house calls and talks to you on the phone. He has called in prescriptions for me to the pharmacy, without me having to go into the office. He will only do this if I have been seen recently in the office by him or his partner (Dr. Hayden, he's great too).

He just saw my 2 1/2 year old and he got bloodwork, X-Rays and sent us a report to our home. Not many Dr.'s do that kind of thing. Or at least the Dr.'s we use for other things don't do that with us. We have documentation on the findings of the lab work, X-Rays,etc... In addition, he also sent a copy to our Pediatrician, which some Dr.'s may do that on their own. However, he lets you know that he sent that to your Pediatrician.

They are really into education and have magazines on allergies, brochures, handouts to help explain about asthma,etc...

The office staff are great with kids and very friendly also and get to know you as a person.

FYI, I have really bad allergies and asthma here in TX, I'm from Kentucky. Here's what I use: Zyrtec, Singulair and then my inhaler is Advair 250 and Nasonex (nose) and then my emergency inhaler and nebulizer if needed. Zyrtec just went over the counter, so you can buy that at the drugstore. It use to be you had to get a prescription.

Good Luck, C.

Go to www.webmd.com and put in your husband's symptoms. You may find some interesting information and help for him with his allergies. It is a very good medical source of information, medication and referrals.

I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Bob Lanier. He pretty much wrote the book on asthma/allergies. He is in West Fort Worth, but if the drive is not a problem. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Dr. Deborah Fawcett with Texas Regional Asthma and Allergy Clinic in Southlake is the BEST! She got my asthma and allergies under control for the first time in my life. She has also helped my brother and mom with the same problems. My 2-year-old has severe food allergies and we plan to schedule a visit to her in the near future for extensive allergy testing. She is absolutely wonderful with children and just the same with adults. The staff is wonderful, too, and have been with her practice for a long time.
