Buy some puffy fabric paint and place dots or squares on the bottom of the socks. Put the socks on something first so they are stretched as though he is wearing them. The paint will prevent sliding and no extra cost for fancy socks,.

Barefoot is the best option, but not always feasable.

Target has cheap generic brand Robeez.

They're nice for the cold weather (although it says you're in TX so I don't know how cold it gets, lol).

My son started walking at 9 1/2 months and I didn't buy him his first pair of hard soled shoes until he was almost 18 months!

Socks with non-slip grips are the best to start with but we also love the pedipeds soft sole shoes. Robeez also makes really good soft sole shoes...the important thing to remember is to go for the soft soles for the beginners. My son is almost 11 months old and learning to take those first steps without support and at home he is usually in socks or barefoot but wears soft sole shoes when we are out and about. It's such a fun age~

My daughters wore the socks with grips on the bottom or Robeez (I think we used a generic brand). Good luck with your walker!

We bought socks at Old Navy they have the grippies on the bottom. He learned to walk just fine barefoot (we also have tile). 1st shoes we bought were New Balances....know lots by the Stride Right shoes.

Too bad about the tile. In my 20 + years of experience working with infants and toddlers, bare feet are the best. They naturally use their toes to balance and grip them to the floor, whether its carpet or hard surfaced. Its the way we were designed! Watch the feet really closely once they are really free standing and stepping...you will see all of the foot muscles working and spreading and gripping to work hard to maintain the balance. Do as much bare feet as you can. It really makes a difference!

Have fun with a new walker!!

I would not waste money on "shoes" just yet. I would buy a pair of robeez for now until she is a fully fledged walker. They stay on the feet and are non slip , plus as they are leather they are pretty warm in any cold weather.

Get the socks with grippies on the bottom--at Old Navy or Childrens Place. They do best barefoot or in socks at first.

I purchased Robeez at a second hand store. Target selsl an off brand. Old Navy has great "gripper socks" that I kept my son in and those worked as well...I think and maybe your doctor will agree, shoes on infants and babies learning to just walk might distract your walker at this point. Good Luck with your cruiser!

My kids started walking at 8 months & 9 months and I used the robeez kind of shoes for both up until they were like 20 months old. They slip on so easy & are great at protecting feet from heat & socks just get so nasty. I usually got mine from Target.

My daughter only liked socks when she was staring out, so I got clear and white puff paint and put big dots on the bottoms of her socks, it makes them slip resistant, but she'll still be able to wear her socks with shoes. Robeez and pediped shoes are great for beginners.

Stride Rite, Stride Rite, Stride Rite. They have flexible walkers and pre-walkers and we put my daughter in them when she started pulling up and cruising. I swear they are the reason she walked at 9 1/2 months. She's 21 months and they are still the only shoes she wears.

If she must have shoes, I would go to Stride Rite. The shoes are made for new and learning walkers. It's best she be barefoot because she needs to use her toes for balance and grip.

I would do like others have suggested and try the Robeez style shoes, when first learning to walk your child should be barefoot and the Robeez simulate this, but offer some coverage to protect the feet. My now three year old wore them and my 11 week old when the time comes will wear them as well.
