So What Happened?

Thanks! I grew up with a bosch...my mom had hers for quite a while and it worked great. I've been debating what to get and Costco had a $50 off coupon for a kitchenaid...so I got it...and have been wondering if I did the right thing. We've had it for a couple of days and have used it so much already...I am SO excited :). My one concern was simply how long they typically last...sounds like it's quite a while!

Hope you did the right thing...I have had a bosch that my parents got me for my wedding...25 years and going strong with all attachments! Love it. Got my daughter a kitchen aid...couldn't afford the bosch and it has already died about 5 years later.

I LOVE my Kitchenaid. I use it weekly, if not more. One suggestion that I have is - don't wait too long to get the attachments as well. You could probably find them cheaper on ebay if you didn't buy a full set with the mixer. I use my grater all the time to grate big chunks of cheese to freeze (I don't like buying the already grated stuff because of the powder that is on them), I grate potatoes for hash browns...etc. My brother-in-law also borrows my mixer and attachments to make ground meat and sausage after he goes hunting. We have definitely saved money for us in the long run with all the things we've been able to do with it. Hope you have fun with it. Plus, I make bread with mine ALL the time. Nothing beats home made bread!

My aunt has the same kitchenaid mixer she started her cake decorating business with 40 years ago and it's still working great (and that thing has done TONS of work). I finally got one myself and I absolutely LOVE it. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I haven't used a Bosch mixer but I sure have used one of their food processors and they are excellent machines.

Both are made extremely well and will last you a VERY VERY long time, have tons of accesories and are well worth the money spent on them.

I use my Kitchenaid mixer all the time, not just for cakes and cookies but things like meatballs, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, dips, the list goes on and it's so easy to clean. I love it.

I LOVE my Kitchenaid stand mixer. It makes better cookies, better mashed potatoes, and I used it to make baby food when my twins were born. Love it!

If a bosch is a hand mixer then that is what I think is better. Hate my Kitchenaid-its huge and really heavy and such a pain to get out. I have used it probably twice in ten years. My hand mixer gets a lot of use though-much easier IMO. I wonder if all the Kitchenaid lovers just keep theirs out on the counter.

Blend Tec

Bosch is a distant second.

Don't even consider KitchenAid.

Reasons? I worked for a short time for Blend Tec (then K Tec). We conducted an experiment in which we put an equal amount of "oatmeal cement" cookie dough into one of several different varieties of stand mixers, including KitchenAid, Bosch, Blend Tec, and several others. Then we set our timers for a three minute test, turned the mixers on, and watched. Within 60 seconds, the KitchenAid motor totally smoked and burned out, leaving unmixed cookie dough. Another minute later, the Bosch and several others did the same. The only mixer still "alive" at the end of the three-minute test was the Blend Tec. And, it was the only mixer that thoroughly mixed the dough.

So, we concluded that the KitchenAid was "all show and no dough." Don't get a Kitchen Aid.

Bosch is good, and much better than Kitchen Aid, but is not as sturdy as the Blend Tec and does not have anything close to as good of a bread kneading cycle as the Blend Tec.

Note: I make whole wheat bread in my Blend Tec every week.

If you're a regular baker, then there is nothing like a Kitchen Aid! I store mine under the counter but there are weeks when it makes an appearance 3 or 4 times. Mine is actually my husband's late mother's. It's 30 years old and shows no signs of slowing down. I am getting an extra bowl for myself soon because I use it so often. Can't imagine life without this! It is the gold standard of stand mixers - it used to be part of the Hobart company, which is the brand of commercial-grade mixers used in the professional kitchen I worked in during college.

First to answer Mallory, I keep it up on the top shelf with all my appliances. It is well worth the hassle of pulling it down. I can't help but wonder if you don't do a lot of, not sure what the right word is but, real cooking. More than half of my recipes cannot be made without a kitchen aid mixer.

I also have the kitchen aid hand mixer.

My stand mixer is 23 years old and I have not had one problem with it. Troy's stand mixer, they are twins, is 10 years old, I won't let him give it away just in case we have the whole family over and need both of them. The hand mixer is 15 years old and again, never had a problem.

Sorry but Kitchen Aid knows how to make mixers!!!

Like the others I have only used a kitchen aid and I love mine. It is what my grandparents give family as a wedding gift, well at least to their kids and I got one as the first grand kid to get married. Mine is about 7 years old and I couldn't say enough good things about it. My mom still uses hers a lot and it is almost 35 years old.

Haven't tried the Bosch, but I love my Kitchenaid stand mixer. There's nothing it can't do, it's easy to clean, fairly quiet, has tons of accessories if you want. In short: it's great. I use it several times a week.

I'm a Bosch girl. I grew up that way. My mom has had hers for 23 years. Mine is 14 years old. I use it at least 3x week. My Bosch has a place on my counter it is used that much! My mother in law has one that is one of the 1st ones made (around 30 years old). It is still going strong. She has had to replace her beaters once though.

I hope you end up liking your Kitchen Aid. My good friend has one and loves it. I do like the fact that they come in different colors too. Makes it a bit more fun. I think I'd get a Cobalt one or a Purple one if I ever made the switch!

As far as how long they last, I think it depends on the age of the mixer. It seems that things made now (in the last 10 years or so) don't seem to last as long. My friend's mom has a Kitchen Aid that is 20 years old and is still going strong. But, my other friend had one for only 2 years before it started showing signs of breaking. He was quite disappointed. My SIL bought a Bosch last Spring. I guess we'll see in a couple of years if it is still as fabulous as day one.

Have fun & happy mixing!

I have a kitchenaid and I have had it for 3 yrs now and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I have went through more handmixers than anyone I know. I mix a lot of heavy duty stuff (cake icing) and my kitchenaid does an awesome job! I lucked up and got it on sale at Sears with a rebate for $100 so for me it was well worth it! I keep it on my counter as I seem to use it at least once a day.
