Kindle Fire Vs. Kindle Touch

The Kindle is a reader. That was my gift from my husband this year. I like the fire but you can't read in a car which is what I wanted a Kindle for. If you want a cheaper tablet you can't beat the fire if you want a reader then you want the touch.

Fira all the way! I got it for my husband for his birthday and he loves it! We both had regualr Kindles prior (Istill do). With the Fire its a e-reader and tablet in one. It offers so many nice bells and whistles and such a good price (which is hard to beat). It doe find it a little sensative to read with. It tends to adjust horizantal or vertical on the slightest tilt move and much heavier then the Kindle. Also, with all Kindles, because the ink technology, you will need a book light if you are a bed reader, but the Fire is back lit and no extra lights reguired. The Kindle touch, will hold a charge for maybe a month in length, where the Fire will need a charge at least once a week or less (depending on how much you use it). The Fire has lots of apps, can hold music and movies as well. Very nice product, very satisfied, though I will never switch. Love, love, love my 2nd generation Kindle!

Kindle Fire is a tablet, not an e-reader. It doesn't have e-ink, it has a backlit screen, so reading outdoors or in bright light would be the same as trying to read a laptop - not very good. However it has internet access, and you can download apps, and do email, and watch videos, and listen to music. You can use it as an e-reader, it's just not as easy on the eyes or versatile as a true e-reader.

Kindle Touch is an e-reader. It has e-ink so you can read it outdoors in bright light. No apps, no internet, no email. You can buy games from the Kindle store to play on it, but I have an old fashioned keyboard Kindle and haven't gotten any.

If you are going to primarily read on it get the touch. If you are going to spend equal time reading and surfing or watching videos I would get the fire.

It really depends on the features that are most important to you. The Kindle Fire is similar to a tablet but it does process slower than a regular tablet, while offering a much lower price. It still is an e-reader with color e-ink. I have been wanting a good e-reader that I could also entertain the kids, and not require a wifi connection to work.

I thought I found the perfect one when I saw the Kindle Fire, but the idea of constantly having ads and movies that only could be watched by streaming video turned me off. I know most smartphones can also be used as an e-reader but I didn't want something that has added monthly expenses for a phone/data nor a contract.

I ended up getting a quality Vizio tablet that came with only 2GB of memory at a great price for $190 and bought a 16GB Micro-SD chip of memory for $15. It is perfect for my needs because it can play games, music, movies, and still be used as an e-reader. The battery life isn't as long as most e-readers, but since my husband already has car chargers and BlueTooth headsets for free from work I didn't need to buy any accessories. Plus most places have a free wifi connection I can use it didn't add anything to our budget.

I would recommend taking a little time to try out different e-readers and tablets at the store to see which one you like best.
