Kids Digital Camera - Arlington,TX

I highly recommend the Kid Tough Digital Camera...It is a great camera for kids and is really tough...My son is 5 and we got him one for Valentines this year and he just loves it!! It has been dropped many of times and got wet one time and it still works great!!

We have had the Fisher Price Kid Tough Camera for a couple of years now and it is great. The kids can drop it, throw it whatever and it still works. It is easy for them to use and kids of all ages love to play with it. I don't think we have changed the batteries very often in the 2 years we have had it, it turns itself off if not being played with so it won't run down the batteries by being left on.

We have the kid tough and we've only replaced the batteries one time since he got the camera last year for his birthday (December). He still plays with it fairly often, at least twice a week. There's an auto shut off, I forget how long for sure but I'd say around 3-5 minutes of non-use and the audible shut off alarm sounds and it turns off. I also recommend spending the money on brand name batteries like Energizer or Duracell for it vs. the generic ones, it makes a difference.

Sorry, but I personally think 4 & 6 are too young to have the responsibility to take care of a digital camera. If you are buying gifts like this at 4 & 6 what will you buy them at 12 & 14? Try starting out with the little disposable cameras first to see if their interest in taking pictures lasts longer than the batteries in the camera. Just a friendly suggestion from someone who has been there, done that. My kids are grown so I've had a little experience.I think they would be just as happy with the disposables. They won't know the difference. Then if you end up with budding photographers you can graduate up the line. Hope this helps.

I have a 5 yo son who loves to take pictures. After seeing the problems and poor quality of the "kiddy" cameras, I decided to purchase him a Samsung S860 for the holidays last year. It costs around $80, takes excellent pictures, runs on two AA batteries, but is inexpensive enough that if he ruins it, I won't be thoroughly upset. So far, he's taken very good care of it. He learned how to work the buttons and really does quite well. Hope this helps!

Digital cameras all have a short life on the regular batteries. But if you spend a bit more on the batteries made for digital cameras they will last a pretty good amount of time. They are usually found in the camera section of the store.

Kodak Easy Share series 300 (I think) are great but batteries are a problem, even Lithium or rechargeable. I have a Sony CyberShot for work right now. As long as you charge it it seems to work better than the Kodak. However, the Kodak is so easy to use.

I do this with most of my kids toys... Get one that takes regular AA bateries, then get rechargeable bateries. It helps for when the kids leave the toy on and I am not paying for new bateries.

Hi C., I'm going to get my 7 year old one for Christmas too. I have shopped around a bit and was told this:
Get one that has a reasonable size memory card so you can transfer pics to the walmart machine and also so they can take lots of pictures.
Also, make sure it can hook up to your computer so you can edit before you go to walmart and save you time and money. I have found the $20-$30 version at Wal-Mart in the camera section pretty worthwhile and comes in different colors too.

Just an FYI- Lithium batteries cost more but you get longer more quality use for the buck. Or try Duracell - they have a longer shelf life as well as a quality energy output. Be sure they turn the camera off after using to save on battery life.

I was going throught batteries like crazy too then mom told me about silver and blue battery at Wal Mart and they last a lot longer. Not sure about what to buy the kids. I got my granddaughter a little one and it never took good pics. G. W

I guess it depends on your kids, but I bought my 3 and 5 year old a real digital camera. I looked at all the "kid" ones, but they were low pixel counts and just not that useful interms of growing with them. I did not buy an expensive one. It was about $60 at Best Buy and I even saw others at Wal Mart for $35 (after I had bought ours) the only additional need was a memory card. The camera has fun colors and the boys love it. It even takes short videos. My 5 yo took it to DC with his Ya-Ya last summer and got great pictures and now uses it for school trips, takes pictures of his toys, etc. We have only had to replace batteries once in 8 months.

I did quite a bit of research on this over the summer and ended up choosing the VTech kid's camera. I thought about going with a cheapie 'adult' digital - but the problem there is that if it gets dropped more than once or twice, you're out of luck. (And having actually dropped and broken my camera, at Disney, no less, I am not willing to go through that again!!) I haven't actually given the camera yet, but I did a TON of research, and the VTech camera appeared to be the best option to me.

I would suggest just getting rechargeable batteries. When the batteries run out of my kids' digital camera it is a blessing. I let them take whatever they wanted between the two cameras last Christmas and ended up with over 900 pictures of the floor, the ceiling, the toilet. Actually I had about 300 pictures of the toilet because they thought that was really, really funny...

Last Christmas I bought my 6 yr. old the Vtech Kidzoom digital camera and she (and I) have loved it! It is easy to operate and is well padded so that it survives drops and bumps without a problem. I don't find that the batteries run down too often, but I do try to take a spare set of batteries with us on trips just in case. It takes pretty good pictures and you can buy a memory card for it to increase the amount of videos and pictures that they can take. In fact, I really recommend doing that so that you don't have to download or delete stuff as often. This was one of the best gifts she's recieved. She loves it.

My daughter has both the Fisher Price Kid Tough camera and the V-Tech Camera. She got the Fisher Price camera as a birthday present when she was turned 3 and the V-Tech as a Christmas present when she was 4. Both are good cameras and they both still work after being dropped many times. Since your children are 4 and 6, I would recommend the V-Tech because it can also make movies and you can add special effects to the pictures. I think a 4 and 6 year old would have more fun with the V-Tech.
