Kid-friendly Cruise for 6 Year Old

My son is 6 and we have never spent the night apart. As a single mom, I need a vacation where I can actually RELAX. I was thinking a cruise would be good because if there are things for him to do I would be able to relax. But, as a single mom even though I am willing to blow my tax wad for a vacation, I still need something reasonable. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I don't know how reasonable they are but I've heard the disney cruises are wonderful for both kids and parents.

Hi! I don't personally know about any cruises myself. However, I have a good friend that is a travel agent and specializes in travel planning with kids. She has 4 herself and her youngest is 6 or 7 years old.

Her services by the way are FREE to her clients. If you want me to I can have her email you, and she can give you some ideas...

Blessings.

check out carnival they have cruises that start at $199.00pp
I am going on a group cruise sept 10 with a bunch of moms and their friends. It leaves from Mobile AL which is about a 10 hour drive from clinton county. The total for that with all taxes and fees is 328.25 and because its a group we all get $100 onboard credit. its a 5 day cruise to cozumel and calica Mexico. If your interested its a $200.00 deposit and the rest is due by july 12. group # is 3p26z2 carnival's group booking # is 1-866-721-3225 if thats not what your looking for do some research. If price is a major factor check out carnival they are the cheapest and do have alot for kids to do. Disney cruise line is more kid oriented but it is pretty pricey. I'd love to take the kids on a disney cruise but who can afford to drop a couple thousand for a few days. Its unbelievable how much they charge!

ok I went on cruise they are great they have lots for kids to do. We had meeting on ship was told there was over 50 kids on board I never seen them They keep them real busy and the parents loved it. Also to get a great deal wait till almost last minute like 2 weeks befor they sail you will get much better rates the ships try to fill all rooms. most any cruise line is good check them all out see which one will have more for your son. Good luck and have fun

Carnival cruises are very kid-friendly. My daughter and I went on a Carnival cruise with my Mom when she was about three and we all had a blast. They have a program for kids where they organize activities and my daughter wanted to go with the other kids any time. The staff was great and it did not cost any extra unless they were watching your child later at night (I think after 10:00 there was a small fee). Good luck with your trip.

Hi D.,
Last year we took our 2 children (I was pregnant with number 3) on a cruise and it was great. At first I didnt think it was a good idea, but now I am a fan. We went on a Carnival Cruise. Its not an upper scale cruise ship like some, so the price was resonable. And the best part is that there is a play center for the kids on the ship. I felt bad about that at first too because I thought my kids were going to daycare... but its not like that. Its actually activites that they do with the kids and they LOVED it! They would beg to go!!! They met all these little friends and had the best time. Plus you can take him down around dinner time and they have a special kids buffet that has all the goodies kids love on it. They close the dining room off to the rest of the ship for that time and the kids have the whole place to themselves! THey LOVED it. We were able to eat dinner and catch a show and gamble and whatnot while the kids had a blast. We picked them up around 11:00 and they were wiped out! During the day we spent time with them at the pool and on the land trips, but in the evening we took them to "camp carnival". Even during the day they were begging to go! It was well worth it.!

I think that it is wonderful that you want to take your son with you on vacation where you want to "relax". That being said, why don't you take a nice relaxing couple of days to yourself. Do you have anyone that could watch your son for a couple of days. I know when I go on vacation with my kids, I come back more stressed out than I was before we left. You could always plan something for yourself and then maybe something for the two of you to do together. Kids need time away from their parents and parents need time away from their kids. It makes everyone happy and healthier in the long run.
